阿蘇び心 Asobi Gokoro, hotel in Aso

阿蘇び心 Asobi Gokoro, a property with a garden, is set in Aso, 41 km from Kumamoto Castle, 41 km from Suizenji Park, as well as 41 km from Hosokawa Residence Gyobutei.

Yoshi is the epitome of Japanese hospitality. Yoshi-sang is warm and welcoming from the beginning. We were greeted with some warm corn tea and Yoshi-sang enthusiastically introduced us to the nearby attractions/onsen and food options, with his self drawn map! We would love to have a bbq session at his very nicely decorated place if the weather is not cold. The onsen and food option Yoshi recommended is awesome. On the cold night, he also offered to prepare us some warm bottle to warm up the futons. Next morning, Yoshi also volunteered to defrost the windscreen as it was frosted overnight. He then made us nice dripped coffee and recommended us to take certain routes to visit daikanbo, the Aso crater and scenic route to Beppu. He even helped us to check the crater situation and weather forecast! Staying at Yoshi’s place and meeting him is definitely one of the highlight of our two weeks honeymoon trip. Thank you very much for the very wonderful stay!

お宿でん吉, hotel in 熊本県阿蘇郡南阿蘇村

お宿でん吉, a property with a garden, is situated in Minami Aso, 36 km from Suizenji Park, 39 km from Kumamoto Castle, as well as 40 km from Hosokawa Residence Gyobutei.

Location is off the main road but if you follow the GPS, it should lead you there. Look out for the residence signs. Recommend that you reach out to the owner early if you wish to dine at the hotel. There is a lovely bbq (both indoors during winter and outdoor in summer - additional charge). It was a lovely experience. This is a refurbished residence (which has all the modern amenities). There is a huge project screen where you can catch your shows. It has two levels with a lovely tea area which you can sit and view Mt Aso. The onsite kitchen is incredible. It has everything! It is a professional kitchen with even a sous vide machine. The burners are also industrial types but I did not get a chance to use them. Post dinner, we spent the majority of the time at the living area downstairs. There was a kerosene heater which was very helpful. It was quite an experience for us as we are not accustomed to the cold. Waking up the next morning with the cold temperature and cold flooring was something which we were not used to. The experience was definitely more interesting compared to any regular hotels. Would definitely recommend a stay here. The couple running the place was so kind and generous.

Beautiful quaint and charming property! Loved it! Easy access to the town centre and the staff were incredibly accommodating and demonstrated exemplary example of Japanese hospitality! Yuki picked us up from the bus stop and greeted us with warmth and made us feel welcomed! Highly recommended if you’re looking for a clean place to stay and explore Kurokawa. You have access to the many onsen at Oyado Noshiyu also! Thank you Yuki and one other Vietnamese lady staff member I crossed paths with - your smiling 😊 faces made our day!

The authentic dining and private bath experience, and staying in a property that was apparently a couple of hundred years old belonging to a samurai. A pleasant walk to the property from Aso station surrounded by the Aso mountains and through a quiet Japanese village is memorable.

The hotel is in the golf resort, located near the west Aso mountain. It is about 10 min driving distance from the downtown train station and 30 min from the Aso summit. Great location if you want to seek a quiet and peaceful experience in winter. Bath hall is at the separate building, the hot spring is definitely a must-visit. Breakfast and dinner buffet are nice. A little pricy but worthwhile.

Charming ryōkan (even if iit is a minshuku….) with beautiful private baths. The dinner and the breakfast were both delicious and generous with local specialities. Very convenient to explore Aso and the region. We have been lucky to find a room here.

It was a lovely traditional Japanese style hotel. Especially, it was super awesome to be able to reserve the room with the private hot springs in the balcony. It was not cheap, but it was definitely worth paying for as my wife and I could get into hot springs at any time we wanted. The staff was very polite, and the room was comfortable. It was nice to be able to choose different designs of yukata lobe. The breakfast buffet was very nice as it had many different varieties of food. We highly recommend to experience this beautiful place.

Large family room with a beautiful, outdoor private onsen. Good fridge. Plenty of space. Good sitting area. Fantastic buffet breakfast - one of the best I have experienced - with both Japanese & Western options. Public seating area, personal kimonos, public onsen, private parking, shop with local products. This resort is mainly used by Japanese families - we were the only Westerners staying - but everything was calm & quiet.
