I stayed for one night with my dog and Christine was an absolutely amazing host . Nothing is too much trouble for her and that also goes for all the staff Bed and pillows were wonderful and comfortable . Everywhere was spotlessly clean . Breakfast was delicious and lots of choice The grounds were beautiful and myself and Willow loved the space and of course Christine's 2 spaniels . I will definitely be staying again and already planning a trip there next summer with my son and grandson from Japan . Best stay and well recommend .

The Old Post Office, Lanchester, hotel in Edmondbyers

The Old Post Office offers a pleasant village setting just 20 minutes’ drive from the historic city of Durham.

Keith and Pauline were great hosts, very welcoming and friendly. The room and ensuite were clean and spacious and they provided some extra touches which were very much appreciated. I liked the way they had themed the rooms, each one being named after an old stamp and decorated accordingly. (They are The Old Post Office after all!) Their home is beautifully decorated with lots of knick-knacks and art work. There were several choices for breakfast which was delicious. They are situated in a beautiful area with good access to the City of Durham and Beamish Museum.

We had a very nice friendly welcome when we arrived. The accommodation was very nice & had everything we needed. We had the sofa bed made up & there was plenty of room for 4 of us. The breakfast was so good. Wonderful full English, fresh fruit, cereals & toast.

Good location and easy to park. The room was a tad on the small side. But we are big people and we made it work. Nice and quiet also. Most we heard were birds and dog walkers.Had just a walk in shower which was really good as I don't like this getting in the bath lark for a shower. Breakfast was good. Choice of what you wanted requested the night before and a selection of cereals. Ate in one night. Proper pub food with generous portions.

Friendly welcome from the staff, heating was on before we arrived ,therefore the rooms were warm. Evening meals and breakfast were exceptional. Food was good quality, no cheap nasty sausages for breakfast, just quality. Portion size was very good for evening meals, cheese board, and breakfast. Thanks to chef Martin and his team. Even the toilet roll in the bathroom was good quality. The room was above the bar but was quiet without any noise from bar. Nice to see a dog friendly hotel very relaxed. The log fire was warm and welcoming.

The setting is stunning, peaceful, relaxing and charming. The self-contained chalets feel private and homely. We used it as a base to attend a local wedding but the area looks wonderful for exploring. The list of facilities is long with every need considered. Jenna is a very generous, friendly and attentive host. She made us feel so comfortable and welcome. Even allowing us to pose with the tractors in our wedding outfits :)
