This long weekend was great! I brought two friends with me who had never been to the city. We did some touristy things and enjoyed some restaurants recommended by a local. You just need to visit for 2-3 nights to realize how fun NYC can be. The people are also really lovely. It is a great city with so much to do. Bring small bills for tipping and good shoes for walking. Take the free Staten Island Ferry to see the Statue of Liberty. A little tip to save some $. Sit in the balcony for a Broadway play/musical. Pop into a restaurant that you have never heard of. I also recommend doing a day or two of the hop-on/hop-off bus for newbies to get their bearings.
Long Island City is a very mixed neighbourhood - industrial, working class, and areas being gentrified. Not everyone would feel comfortable walking around the neighborhood. But there is hip stuff developing.
I would have done more , if i planned a little better, biking would have been a good option to get around locally and more details directly around the hotel, we found most things but a detailed note would have been nice.
Its New York City and there are plenty of things to go to with in walking distance or catch the subway. A few blocks away Times Square, Hudson Yards, Brooklyn Bridge, High Line, Chelsea Market, Chinatown One World Trade Center, 9/11 Memorial and Museum just to name a few places.
Brooklyn is a huge place, so reviewing it is a bit difficult. There are really nice parts and not so nice parts. It depends why you are there in the first place. I am there to visit family and am not doing a lot of very 'touristy' things. But the following are some highlights of Brooklyn that I have experienced. Red Hook district: small neighborhood on the water with so many great bars/restaurants and a bit of theater, and a GREAT grocery store (Food Bazaar). Prospect Park. Williamsburg for excellent shopping/dining. Nighthawk Theater (dinner and drinks served during movie). Brooklyn Museum of Art.
ONLY THING IS NEW YORK PEOPLE ARE MEAN & RUDE!!!! New York had beautiful energy in the Air. When we arrived, until the first point of contact. our uber driver semt grumpy, like he didn't want to be working LOL. Then check-in process at POD51, was rushed and un genuine. But, being in such a city with spectacular views no matter which part of Manhattan you are staying in. I enjoyed the attractions like - Top of the rock - Empire State building - Circle line sightseeing cruise -Times square EVRYTHING IS WITHING 10-15 mins walking distance, with opportunity to get distracted at many foods trucks/ Truck stops etc. EVERYONE IS ALSO ALWAYS IN A RUSH!!! Blank street coffee was made a part of our routine with amazing options to choose from. Food = SO MANY OPTIONS, from healthy, to fast-food!!! ONLY THING IS NEW YORK PEOPLE ARE MEAN & RUDE!!!!!!!!
