Offering barbecue facilities and quiet street view, Casa dos avós is situated in Alvor, 14 km from Algarve International Circuit and 37 km from Algarve Shopping Center. You get an entire house with a very spacious living room, fully equipped kitchen, 3 bath rooms and an entire first floor with 3 bedrooms, so perfect for larger groups (we were with a group of 6). Everything was super clean (thanks Lisette). House is located in a small town (there is only 1 small local grocery store, but it has everything you need), so very calm during the evenings. But very conveniently located to visit the main attractions of the Algarve or Alvor center in the evening. The owner is super kind and very responsive to emails. She even stayed up until we arrived at the location to make sure we got in smoothly (which was almost at 1 am due to a late flight, sorry Ana :( ). We will definitely book here again when we revisit the Algarve!

Restaurants and bars are great. The boardwalk is super, taking you along the beach and into town. It's a shame Michael's bar doesn't have Karaoke any more as the karaokes in the town are not a patch on Michael's where everyone would meet after food and visiting other music bars and Irish bars. You could meet up with people you would see every year from all over.
Highly recommend this cozy cottage just outside of Portimao. The owners are lovely people and they make sure the guests have everything they need. The apartment is newly renovated, spotlessly clean, comfortable, absolutely gorgeous gardens and pool, 15-20 minutes to Portimao and the beach, and perfect for a place to really relax.
Everything was wonderful including the hosts, property, room, location, parking, fresh local foods for breakfast, and surrounding towns full of shopping , restaurants, sight seeing and activities. The value for your money was phenomenal. I wish all hosts were as kind, attentive, helpful, caring, and concerned for all of our needs. The breakfast choices were wonderful and both days we didn’t eat lunch because we weren’t hungry after the large, delicious breakfast.
Portimao has an amazing soft sandy beach, probably the best in the whole of the Algarve. It has lots of beach bars and restaurants and we could always find somewhere to sit and take in the view. The sea is always cold being The Atlantic but the grandkids didn't seem to mind. We found a super Italian Restaurant near to The Jupiter Hotel called Bella Pizzaria, try the spaghetti with oil, prawns and garlic, its superb. The grandkids loved the spaghetti bolognaise and had it twice during our 7 day stay. There is a large Aldi and Lidl near to Alvor which is a short car journey away,. We used Ubers which were easy to get and very cheap. We took an Uber to Alvor and had a lovely evening there. We went to Slide and Splash on a really hot day. All the 'free' shade from tress was taken up and we didn't take a sun shade. Unfortunately by the time we realised that you can hire them for 5euros (with a 5euro deposit) they had all been hired out. So take one with you, there are plenty of grass areas to put it up. You can also hire beds with a shade for about 10euros. Whist we had to queue for the bigger rides the smaller rides had shorter queues and they moved fairly quickly.
Breakfast and the staff was the only good part about the holiday. Beds uncomfortable No hotfood at lunch and dinner Poor drinks service had to que and the sizes where to small, cocktails they used house spirits, u might aswell use white spirit. Overall we won't be coming back
Very friendly town. It's got plenty of options for all sorts of tastes. From fine dining to just a casual dinner. One can walk pretty much everywhere. From beach to city center it's about 30min walk. Lots of options to buy from a supermarket if you're on a budget. For someone who is looking for nightlife just grab an Uber and hop to Alvor which is about 5km away. And of course, the beaches are all around amazing. Lots of beach area to visit and with good restaurants.
