I love Ipoh because the food is great, the old town is easy and fun. I have friends there so it is different. I don't care for much of the rest but they are there if you want to do it. Make sure you have lots of space in your lugguage to buy your yummy snacks and gifts home.
It was perfect place. Im shock at the first time come because its really a nice place. Quite and calm make me comfortable even its look abit scary. Definitely., I will come again and recommended the Dandelion hotel to my colleague and family. The room its big. The shower the toilet and all facilities are soo good. The staff polite and helpful. Im just hoping if the hotel can hire a security person just incase. The Dandelion Hotel become one of my favourite hotel 😍
Nice old town with much untouched straits settlement architecture. In comparison, those in Singapore, Penang and Malacca have been preserved and updated. But you can still find original or close-to-original buildings in Ipoh. Food was great! Especially the street food. Notable must-try cuisine would be the Salted Chicken (may not be to everyone's liking), Stir Fired Bean Sprouts, Ipoh Hor Fun (a different league!) and Ipoh White Coffee (coffee with condensed milk). Worth visiting the cave temples (there are a few and they are not close to one another!) on the outskirts as the atmosphere is pleasing. Just googled 'Temple Caves in Ipoh'. If you have the time, go out of Ipoh to Kelly's Castle (a British style castle), the Tanjung Tulang Tin Dredge (a look into Ipoh's glorious past as a tin mining town) and Cameron Highlands (cooling & refreshing getaway from the hot tropical sun).
Short trip. Probably stay long for the next trip. We've been to Aeon Station 18 @Ipoh which takes 18 minutes away from the Dandelion Inn. We've plan to continue our journey thru Lojing but unfortunately there's a landslide. So we've change our plan & heading Kuala Kangsar from Simpang Pulai.
Ipoh city at least the area near the river is fairly run down. The park on the river is run down and litter is abundant on the river bank area. This is no surprise to me as its common across SE Asia countries. Walking around is not recommended in the hot weather, use Grab or other services. Forget the local bus service. The tourist spots in the old city are worth seeing but the rest is really you normal shops and businesses. Crossing the road is tricky unless you are at a set of traffic lights. These are not so common. I feel Ipoh has not a lot of charm, we tried hard to look for it. We did meet friendly people. I don't think I would come back again to Ipoh.
We stopped to play golf, and to savour the local cuisine. We were not disappointed. The course at Royal Perak Golf Course was in good condition. We enjoyed our afternoon of golf. Earlier we stopped in town for nasi ganja. We were delighted with our lunch which was half the price of a similar meal in KL. For breakfast the next morning we stopped at Hollywood and enjoyed fried kwaytiau, prawn mee and kopi susu. Once done we headed out of Ipoh via Simpang Pulai. The traffic on that Tuesday morning was flowing well.
