There are many businesses that are no longer in business.
There are many businesses that are no longer in business. I spent three hours looking for a place to rent a motorbike. All six rental agencies were out of business. Google maps is way out of date in this city. The only highlight was an alley of street art murals.

My last visit was in 2013 so I was pleasantly surprised by some new tourism products. We happened to go to Jalan Bandar Timah and its surrounding streets for breakfast and as it was near Chinese New Year, the streets were abuzz with CNY shopping and festive vibes. I would recommend the war memorial at the railway station. It is not a grand monument but its a record of a little bit of Ipoh and its place in the 2 world wars.

A wonderful getaway, nestled in the hills of Perak!
A wonderful getaway, nestled in the hills of Perak! A fascinating blend of old and new cultural elements. The heritage tour in Old Town is a real treat. Many places were quiet on the two days we were there - Monday and Tuesday, so travelers should keep that in mind. Outside the city, we enjoyed the Perak Cave Temple with its amazing statues and cave paintings. The 450 step hike to the top was tiring but scenic. We also went to the Tambun Cave with Neolithic age paintings. It was clearly not well maintained and access was a little daunting. But I the paintings at the end of the 40 metre climb were very fascinating.

Other than the usual touristy sights, there are new and rich experiences hidden in often over looked heritage museums eg Arlene House, Hor Yan Hir and Han Chin Pet Soo. The latter two must be booked in advance via their website. Ipoh is most famous for food be it local hawker street food or dine in restaurants, and is the capital of biscuit confectionary. Thoroughly enjoyed our 4 days stay this time and tried eating at all new places c/f commonly visited places. Ipoh also offers hidden Caves, hidden world thro the caves, hidden Valleys, tunnels and 2 Mirror Lakes. make time for a trip to a pomelo farm and a melon farm next door, All the above are free except for Arlene House and the two tunnels, Also lots of street art murals all over, Ipoh is also the town for origin of the best coffees and bean sprouts.
Interesting sights. Amazing food. Friendly locals. Very beautiful high mountains and valleys everywhere. Very pleasing n wonderful change from someone from highly built up urban Singapore
But surprisingly popular eateries are very crowded

Very nice hotel in the midst of Old Town Ipoh. The rooms are as advertised, with exposed brick walls, TV and bed. Our room had an ensuite bathroom, which had a brand new instant hot water heater that worked great. Clean and comfortable! The shared bathrooms in the hallway looked nice and well maintained (even though we didn't need to use them). Great location to for easy walking around old town or over the bridge to the new town.
We are repeat guests as the Valya hotel in Ipoh, its all about location and good service, reasonable cost..staffs always excellent, we never had a problem communication, and access to the rest of the town from train station to hotel is easy by taxi and walking distance from bus station to hotel and we always being grateful for their commitment to excellence service they provided, we look forward to staying with you again soon.
The location of the hotel is good as it is located at one of the main street in Ipoh. There's a 7-11 right beside the hotel. The parking is convenient. The staff is friendly and provide lots of info. The room is clean with big bed. The air-cond is cold. The bathroom is clean with good shower head. Overall a good stay in the town.
The Hotel is close to Ipoh Parade, the largest Mall in town. 10 minute walk. To old town Ipoh it is 30 minute walk. The room was large, everything right there. The bed was good, bathroom ok. Not noisy at night.
