Amman is a bustling city with historical sites, great food and quirky shops. I loved the citadel, which only costs 3 JD to enter. At Hasheem Restaurant, you can try authentic Jordanian cuisine for an extremely low price. Taxi drivers are helpful and I didn't feel like they were trying to scam me. Clothing is very cheap here. I bought a belt for only 5 JD and the quality seems very high. However, tourists need to be careful with persistent shopkeepers who invite them in and charge them too much. Always bargain for a lower price. The price they ask is not set in stone but is just the start of a negotiation.
I would not go out of your way to visit Amman. It's a hectic city for pedestrians and downright crazy for drivers. Meanwhile, there isn't that much to do: a few ancient Roman sites, a couple mosques, and a museum.
Tourist friendly people, good food, affordable price, many tourist attractions, lively downtown market. Found a bit costly in commuting (taxi charges), limitations in conversing with people in english. Dead Sea Beaches are not maintained as it is very difficult to walk safely and comfortably to float in Dead Sea (i used Holiday In Resort beach).
Don't really on Hotel taxi very over priced and local knowledge is poor. Amman has limited attractions because small country there are Aqaba, Heki Wem, Petra, Jerash, umm qais, Roman theatre and Citidel and dead sea are the best. Amman City does not have something to define it all attractions are Greek or Roman
I love this city! I have travelled all over the world and have experience with all known ones. But Amman is my favorite. I have been here 4 times now. It counts 6 million inhabitants and therefore is busy. But........ there is never an unsafe. In fact in other cities I am very carefull. Pickpocketters everywhere. But In Amman you can leave everything unwatched and it is still there. (Do the same in New York, Amsterdam, Paris, Rio ..... :) :) ) The Jordan people are open, superkind and for sure not religious fanatics. In fact I feel ashamed about the western Islamofoob behaviour. I would never advise a jordanian to visit Western countries as I feel ashamed about our discrimination of Muslims. Amman has many places of interest: The Citadel, The museums, Downtown, Roman theater etc. etc. And for sure many nice restaurants with great food. For those with weak health. Jordan people are very hygienic.
A great place for foodies, as there are plenty of reasonably priced restaurants with amazing food. Even Fakhreldin which is widely considered the best restaurant in Amman wasn't very pricy. The city is not very walkable but taxis/Ubers are rather cheap, typically very comfortable and come quickly. Amman Citadel is a must see for the city views.
