Naples is gritty and you have to be careful of the restaurants. Although the food can be wonderful. STAY AWAY from 7 Soldi, bad food foul awful smelling (like urine) eggplant parm seriously. We sent it back and we were verbally abused (we only said it didn’t smell right). My husband is a physician and even he smelled it. Three angry looking people came out causing a scene because we asked them politely to take it off the bill. The Spanish Quarters back street restaurants are good and bad careful.
Beautiful buildings great shops Sightseeing bus tours lovely port and mariner also beach. Lovely cakes and coffee. Not many restaurants in the city only around the beach area. Museums were brilliant definitely worth doing.
Naples is the nearest we have to Delhi in Europe. It is alive and has a beating heart of ancient culture mixed with a modern soul. Yes it’s covered in graffiti, rubbish, it’s noisy but god do you come away feeling like you have lived a bit. Best pizza, coffee, caravaggios, amazing churches, underground archeology, the Bay, Vesuvius, Pompeii and Maradona. What are you waiting for
I was booked to stay 3 nights and from the moment I arrived I regretted going there but couldn't get an earlier flight out. The cab driver from the airport almost got us killed 3x as he was using his phobe while driving and trying to sell me excursions and only narrowly escaped collisions three times . It was very scary. It's a place I would never return too. The traffic is insane and dangerous for pedestrians even on the narrow side walks.Hardly anyone speaks English. Mostly old people. I have visited hundreds of cities in my life but this was the worst place I've ever been too. Getting robbed of my phone in the over crowded Garibaldi train station was a horrible experience--right out of my pocket in the shoulder to shoulder crowds. I spent an hour in the police station filling out the report. A young US gal from Oregon i met on the street echoed all my sentiments. I would strongly recommend staying away from this town. ( inner city apparently 1.2 million people and including the outskirts 4 million).
Naples was very hot and humid. It is not a city for the elderly as it is in poor repair. The allies are very dark and wet, The food is pasta and pizza. Italy in general is very expensive with lunch of one main and a beer costing $60 plus AUSD. There is a tourist tax in most cities.
Even without the Greek and Roman archeology sites in its vicinity, Naples is a fascinating place in itself. You may need some time to find your way around. City maps are less useful than in cities lying on flat terrain because they lack the information of height. Transport in the city is chaotic - bring your own car only if you are really adventurous. Centro Storico is however small enough to be entirely walkable. You need to have really bad luck to encounter food which isn't tasty. Pizza is generally great and cheaper than at home; do however try other Napoletan cuisine as well!
1) The hotel is close to the Naples International Airport. 2) The breakfast is pretty good.
