Airport Split offers accommodations in Kastel Stafilic, 12 miles from Salona Archeological Park and 14 miles from Mladezi Park Stadium. This beachfront property offers access to a balcony. This was a great place to stay near the airport. First, it’s important to note that it’s an apartment (more like an airbnb) rather than a hotel. That being said, the owner and her family were very communicative and arranged to meet me at the property. The apartment was very clean (like immaculate clean) and comfortable. The apartment was also stocked with all the necessities, which saved me a trip to the store (snacks/coffee in the kitchen, body wash, laundry detergent, dishwasher soap etc) for which I was very grateful after a long day of traveling. The airport is an easy 10 minute walk around the block.
I liked Slatine. It was a beach town but close to Trogir and Split. We drove to Split instead of taking the ferry because the ferry did not have enough options of my liking and parking in Split was easy enough. It was great having the bridge from Trogir and we never encountered any traffic going over the bridge. I thought the restaurants were reasonably priced in the area (a pizza might be around 65kuna, fish would be around 100 kuna). Overall, I though Slatine was nicely placed to see the islands and local cities nearby, yet it also gave the beach town feeling.
We appreciated the explanation of how to turn on the hot water and AC. The snacks in the fridge helped to fill the edge until we got to the restaurant. The entire apartment is clean and modern. We enjoyed our stay. We had to catch an early flight out and were able to easily walk to the airport from the apartment. I would definitely stay there again.
Okrug Gornji didn't have much to offer beside the beaches. We needed to go to the downtown, to Okrug Donji where better supply of all major turistic activities is located. That would be like 10 minutes car drive.
We only stayed one night, before flying back to Uk. I walked from our apartment to the nearest supermarket (approx. 1.3 miles), along a busy road with no pavement on either side of road. The amount of rubbish along the sides of the road was disgusting.
It's a nice city with it's old houses and good restaurants. Close to Split, Trogir, Krka national park (1 hour). The newer area of the city offers enough supermarkets and stores. No shopping areas, really. Church-bells on every day morning at 6, 7 am and longer bells at 7:45 ... was a bit disturbing and wakes you up. At least during the 2 months of vacation season they could consider to switch this off. I mean: Who needs to know that it is 6am or 7am especially at weekends, when on vacation? Who does not have a watch nowadays? Consider the airport is 10 minutes away.
Trogir centre is a classic old Mediterranean town with well preserved architecture which in my view rises well above its modern touristification. It is also a big marine centre. In summer though it gets choked with traffic, come by bus (or ferry from Split in summer only) if you can. There is a frequent bus service from Split and Split airport every day.
