A dream destination for those from overseas who love our history. Quintessentially English, and a short stroll to Blenheim Palace. Individual Shops, boutiques, antiques cafes, and a good choice of places to eat, but without feeling over commercial. Lots of other places close by to explore. We had a lovely meal at The Brothertons Brasserie, which was delicious, Italian and staff were exceptional, I would most certainly return there when next in Woodstock, the was also a lovely Gelateria I think it was called Alfonso’s down the road, I only wish they had stayed open to say 21.00hrs as we could have had some for our dessert. We were staying in a self catering property and there was also a good local shop, butchers, fruits and veg shop, all selling good quality products. You can easily walk around Woodstock, and into Blenheim.
The property was clean and light and good location to where we wanted . The down fall we found was the bathroom is downstairs which was a issue for my mother who is 80yrs old . She found the shower uneasy as there was no grab rail and no hook got you clothes . The kitchen we found was very limited utensils and and tableware no tea towel and no washing up liquid etc. We asked for a tea towel which arrived straight away so very helpful
CHarming and quaint village near Tackley, the village I grew up in. The walk to Tackley past the canal and river is lovely and barely changed in 50 years. The village pub "The Oxford Arms" does a couple of decent real ales and nice food.
If you are wanting to stay in a village close to, but not actually in Oxford, then consider Cassington. Though small, Cassington has the rural village outlook but is just a few miles away from Oxford. The Park & Ride is 4 miles away; also the train station at Oxford Parkway for day getaways to London by rail. There are two pubs in Cassington - the Red Lion and Chequers. The 20 mph speed limit in the village make it safe for strolling and dog walking. A great base for access to Blenheim Palace and many Oxfordshire walks.
Woodstock is a pretty little town, with some interesting shops and plenty of good pubs and eateries. Also, of course convenient for Blenheim Palace which is a short walk. We a ate dinner at the Back Lane Tavern, which was amazing with very tasty food and warm atmosphere. Also convenient for a visit to Winston Churchill's grave at Bladon Church.
The purpose of our stay was to visit Oxford University abd the town itself. Everywhere is within close proximity travelling by car. Lovely quiet area, lots of major road works going on at the moment.
