Overlooking the lighthouse of the Mauro Island, the popular sandy beach of Sardinero is divided by the gardens of Piquio. These magnificent gardens feature Canarian palm trees, blue eucalyptus and colorful flower beds.
Located on the Magdalena Peninsula, the imposing Palacio de la Magdalena has a neoclassic French and English style. Wander around the green gardens and visit the small zoo, home to penguins, seals and other sea animals.

We particularly enjoyed walking up to the Palace on the Magdalena peninsula and then along the coastal board walk to the lighthouse. Beautiful views and so lovely to be near the sea. We also enjoyed walking around the town and along the harbour.

A lovely small city, however tourism is not a big thing in the town. Limited options for tourists such as seeing the town or history. Limited English spoken, which I enjoyed, this is a good Spanish city. If you want to see a traditional and surprisingly green part of Spain, then you will enjoy Santander.

A hidden gem. Excellent for walking and lots to explore.
A hidden gem. Excellent for walking and lots to explore. El Sardinero is a magnificent beach which the authorities work hard to maintain. More must be done however to keep the pavements clear of dog muck in all parts of the town.

Airport shuttle service easy to find and cheap.
Airport shuttle service easy to find and cheap. Many hostels near bus terminal and cheap dormitories. Beach within walking distance from bus terminal. Dog-friendly. As a single woman you can be out near bus terminal with no problems, felt safe. Local busses cheap. Bus to Bilbao only 7,70 Euros. I really enjoyed Santander.
The decor of the room was very nice with a comfortable bed and some basic amenities such as a coffee machine and fridge. The location to the beach and restaurants was also an added bonus and from the hotel a 15-20 walk through the foot tunnel and following roads leads to a more central part of santander with an abundance of bars and restaurants. It was also walking distance to a number of natural areas of santander.
The location was great. The hotel is nice you feel the history of the place. But I wouldn’t say it’s a 5 stars GL. The service is not 5 stars GL. Rooms are clean, big but a bit outdated. Showers were recently renovated and very nice and comfy, really liked it. The breakfast was good. The view from our room was stunning ! This is something we really enjoyed.
Incredible stay at the Gran Hotel Victoria and Santander. Well kept hotel, very clean and tidy, large balcony/terrace and views were brilliant. Staff were incredibly helpful and will definitely be back. Location was exceptional, 2 minute walk to el Sardinero beach, 15 minute walk to Magdalena Palace and 25 minutes to the old town.
Great sea-side hotel with beach views / Easy street parking / Good quiet location / Large room with balcony / 40 min walk
or 1.30 Euro bus to Santander centre / Near beach with surfers / Good, but small infinity pool / Quality helpful staff / Pool towels free / Hotel felt a lot better than its official 3* rating.
The room was absolutely stunning. We had a fabulous view over the water and the park. The bed was the most comfortable I’ve ever had in a hotel. This is a great location too, as it’s next to the town and just a 25 minute walk to the nearest beach. We loved it!
