Rolling Hills, Magnificent Gardens and Sandy Beaches
On the north coast of Spain, the seaside city of Santander is the capital of Cantabria. This beautiful city has it all: from stunning beaches and green gardens to captivating museums and a bustling central area.
Overlooking the lighthouse of the Mauro Island, the popular sandy beach of Sardinero is divided by the gardens of Piquio. These magnificent gardens feature Canarian palm trees, blue eucalyptus and colorful flower beds.
Located on the Magdalena Peninsula, the imposing Palacio de la Magdalena has a neoclassic French and English style. Wander around the green gardens and visit the small zoo, home to penguins, seals and other sea animals.
The Cathedral of Santander is a historic landmark in the center of the city. Built between the 12th and 14th centuries, this historic monument consists of two Gothic churches. The Alameda de Oviedo Boulevard is a shopping paradise where you can find everything you need.
Enjoy a walk on the wide seaside promenade, where you'll find a big selection of cafés and restaurants to choose from. Booking.com offers a variety of hotels, guesthouses and apartments in the area. The international Santander Airport is the only one in Cantabria.

We particularly enjoyed walking up to the Palace on the Magdalena peninsula and then along the coastal board walk to the lighthouse. Beautiful views and so lovely to be near the sea. We also enjoyed walking around the town and along the harbour.

A lovely small city, however tourism is not a big thing in the town. Limited options for tourists such as seeing the town or history. Limited English spoken, which I enjoyed, this is a good Spanish city. If you want to see a traditional and surprisingly green part of Spain, then you will enjoy Santander.

A hidden gem. Excellent for walking and lots to explore.
A hidden gem. Excellent for walking and lots to explore. El Sardinero is a magnificent beach which the authorities work hard to maintain. More must be done however to keep the pavements clear of dog muck in all parts of the town.

Airport shuttle service easy to find and cheap.
Airport shuttle service easy to find and cheap. Many hostels near bus terminal and cheap dormitories. Beach within walking distance from bus terminal. Dog-friendly. As a single woman you can be out near bus terminal with no problems, felt safe. Local busses cheap. Bus to Bilbao only 7,70 Euros. I really enjoyed Santander.
The hotel is located across the road from ferry terminal. Rail and bus stations are a 5 minute walk away. Very central location for shopping or walking on promenade. The Sardinera beach area is a 40 minute stroll away. There are plenty of buses going to beach area. All staff were polite, friendly and professional. We had a comfortable large room. The public areas are very nicely furnished. We have stayed in the hotel a few times and never been disappointed. I would recommend Hotel Bahia to family and friends.
Le Petit Boutique Hotel is situated a few hundred yards from the Sardinero beach and within easy walking distance of the Casino and eating places. The rooms are themed on places around the world - we were in New York, on the first floor with patio doors. Fresh bottled water provided each day. The hotel team are charming, welcoming and helpful and the property is kept exceptionally clean. The breakfast was good, fresh fruits, breads and preserves.
Very central hotel right in the middle of Santander. Hosted in a historic building, but the rooms are nice and modern. Staff were friendly and helpful with various things for my trip. Breakfast was held in another airy room and made for a nice morning in the middle of Santander. Around the area there's plenty of shops, bars and restaurants, the good beaches are a bus/boat ride away.
The hotel is even better than the pictures suggest. An old facade but an ultra modern interior. Good parking under the hotel, good sized room and a great location on a a lovely beach.
The staff were great, universally warm, friendly and went out of their way to help.
We will certainly return if we take the ferry to Santander again.
A really beautiful hotel opposite the beach.
On the city outskirts, really easy to get to centre with public transport.
Jesus met us and sorted out everything for us. Rachuel was really helpful as well.
