The birthplace of Picasso is as colorful as an artists palette, from the deep blue of the Mediterranean Sea to the golden sun, which gives 300 days of sunshine per year. When the sun sets, the vibrant nightlife awakens and youll find your place among the youthful square of the old center, the trendy bars of La Malagueta or on one of the terraces of Pedregalejo.
There's also rich history underneath the sun and fun. Alcazaba is a Moorish castle from the 11th century and just next to it are the remnants of a Roman Theatre. The white stone tower of the Malaga Cathedral rises up in the heart of the city centre, and offers an interesting respite from sun bathing on the magnificent and popular beaches.
A more modern history can be appreciated by visiting the birthplace of Picasso and a museum full of exhibitions by Malaga 's most famous resident. A more relaxed Spanish city than Madrid and Barcelona, Malaga is still the gateway to the Costa del Sol and the busy Malaga Airport is only 6 miles from the center of town.
From budget hostels to 5-star luxury hotels, with Booking.com you're sure to find the perfect place to stay for your sunny vacation.

Malaga is the birthplace of Pablo Picasso, but we are not art enthusiasts, so did not pursue this in Malaga. However, Malaga offers a welcome relief from the more intense sightseeing that is part of seeing Andalusia, which has so much history. There is history in Malaga too, but for us, it was a respite from history, and a put-your-bags-down place, to chill out, rest and just wander around, agenda-free, unlike the rest of our trip to Spain, which was structured and planned to see Moorish and Islamic history in Spain.
