The birthplace of Picasso is as colourful as an artist’s palette, from the deep blue of the Mediterranean Sea to the golden sun, which gives 300 days of sunshine per year. When the sun sets, the vibrant nightlife awakens and you’ll find your place amongst the youthful square of the old centre, the trendy bars of La Malagueta or on one of the terraces of Pedregalejo.
There's also rich history underneath the sun and fun. Alcazaba is a Moorish castle from the 11th century and just next to it are the remnants of a Roman Theatre. The white stone tower of the Malaga Cathedral rises up in the heart of the city centre, and offers an interesting respite from sun bathing on the magnificent and popular beaches.
A more modern history can be appreciated by visiting the birthplace of Picasso and a museum full of exhibitions by Malaga’s most famous resident. A more relaxed Spanish city than Madrid and Barcelona, Malaga is still the gateway to the Costa del Sol and the busy Malaga Airport is only 10 km from the centre of town.
From budget hostels to 5-star luxury hotels, with Booking.com you’re sure to find the perfect accommodation for your sunny holiday.
I always enjoy Malaga. I found this time I was approach numerous times and followed, by people begging for money. I went into shops to avoid but they were still waiting when I came out. As a solo female traveler I found this intimidating. The square near the accommodation was not pleasant in the evening /night time.
Beside this I enjoyed the food, tour of the castle, catamaran tour.

Malaga is quite interesting.
Malaga is quite interesting. Definitely best visited out of season when there are fewer tourists. Certainly avoid Christmas unless you like crowds the area above and around the old town is smart and clean. However, the section from the river which is dried up by the way, back towards the centre of the city is like any other big city. The same shops and sadly a lot of graffiti

Malaga always delivers: food, beaches, museums and culture, flamingo shows, shopping and weather. Can’t recommend enough the flamenco club show, Carmen Thyssen collection. Espetos at the beach is a must and for the real fish lovers: Alaska tavern near la union…. Be prepared to queue for a table and wait but it’s absolutely worth it! Tapas at the main market

Malaga old town full of tapas bars and restaurants.
Malaga old town full of tapas bars and restaurants. You have a main street with all high end products. Great atmosphere. The cathedral, the castle and the port is all well worth a visit too. I would compare it to Seville but Malaga has the added bonus it has a port and beaches. Sun, great food, great atmosphere!

Fantastic location, a stones throw away from the main strip of Malaga, close to old town Centro and short walk. Also close to metro station and 10-15 mins walk to main Malaga station. Nice hotel with clean and big rooms, and we even had a small balcony that was lovely. Access to pool and gym was handy on our big trip. Staff were friendly and helpful, and encouragement of reusing towels and option to skip room clean for the day and obtain a drink voucher is a great way to encourage sustainable measures.
The hotel is very close to a Renfe station and therefore the airport, it has a very good location also being close to the beach and the old town. The room is clean, I think they even mopped the floor every day. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I recommend this hotel. It is plus that they have luggage storage service. For example my flight left only at 20:30, and I did not have to worry about my luggage after checkout at 12:00.
Excellent location. Situated by the old town and amphitheatre made it easy to walk around the area for cafes, restaurants, harbour and historic buildings. We flew into Malaga and then caught the train into the city. Latter about 15 minutes. Walked from there for about 25 as daytime, but taxi back to airport on return as dark. Cost €23.
Helpful staff at hotel. Would use again.
We needed a hotel close to airport after travelling through Spain. We tried to avoid the British hotspots so were anxious about staying in Malaga. This place was an oasis if calm with still things to keep children more than busy. Pool is great and clean with great access to a clean beach.
Alux Boutique Hotel in Malaga's old town boasts a prime location, a charming ambiance, and a delightful rooftop, providing a pleasant setting for exploration and relaxation.
