Lovely hotel in an excellent location within walking distance of many attractions. We didn't use the dining facilities so can't rate those but the staff were very friendly.. We had a smoking room which I didn't even think was a thing anymore but it suited me.

Although abounding in reminders of the past, York is very much a city for the here and now, with excellent shops, bars and restaurants, many along the River Ouse. Surrounding it are the medieval city walls – the longest and best preserved in England – and many of the gates that once gave access to the city.
Walk the walls for wonderful views of the city and towering York Minster. Standing proud on a hill, this cavernous church is the seat of the Archbishop of York, the 2nd highest position in the Church of England.
A little south is The Shambles, a narrow street with medieval buildings that now house quaint shops. Going further back in time is the Jorvik Centre, a fascinating museum showcasing the city’s Viking remains. You can even try out archaeology for yourself at the DIG excavation pits, with replica finds from York’s Roman, Viking, medieval and Victorian eras.
Other York attractions include the National Railway Museum, home to the Flying Scotsman and Mallard trains. Around a 30-minute drive away, Castle Howard is a stately home on an over 1,000-acre estate.
Leeds-Bradford Airport is the nearest airport, and there's a great range of hotels, B&Bs and guesthouses in York and on the outskirts available on Booking.com.

I had a truly amazing couple of days in York but it wasn’t enough time to explore this magnificent city . Visiting during the Christmas season added to the magical experience of this beautiful and historic place. I am determined to return and hope I will be able to stay at Rebecca’s accommodation again .

A beautiful city, especially for history lovers.however, i was slightly disappointed, as was going to york "to carry" some christmas vibes from there (york was advertised as a perfect place for christmas market lovers).unfortunately not.the streets are hardly decorated, disappointing main city's christmas tree and small christmas market.

A city that has it all: a great vibe, so much history, two good universities, free Railway Museum, York Minster, Shambles shops, Betty's, two Wetherspoon pubs, parks, river cruises, Christmas market, mainline railway station, city wall, excellent public transport network, ghost walks, sightseeing open top buses, Jorvik Museum, chocolate experience. Two good hostels. Coastliner double decker luxury buses to Leeds, Scarborough & Whitby. The only drawbacks: city centre driving & parking should be avoided. Use Park & Ride. York isn't cheap; it's full of boutique shops and pricey cafés.

A very vibrant city and when the xmas market is on a very very extensive range of stalls the vast majority of which are independant holders. A large selection of eateries from cafe to A La Carte and of many tastes. The city is very old in places and has many quaint streets and hidey holes, the Ghost shop is a must but be prepared for a long queue

A wonderful city with so many historic and interesting places to visit and all within easy walking distance. The Minster, Castle and Yorvik museums and art gallery are all well worth visiting and walking down the famous medieval street called the Shambles is a must. Take a river cruise, walk along the historic walls and visit the Railway Museum which houses the record breaking steam locomotive ‘The Mallard’. York at Christmas is great as there’s a Christmas market and a traditional pantomime at the Theatre Royal. A brilliant place for all ages to enjoy. Use the park and ride for easy and trouble free access to the city. Plenty of eating places with a good price range.

the hotel indigo was perfectly located just on the edge of the city centre with just a 10 minute walk to the shambles, parking is available, (for a small fee) and all the staff were just brilliant.
our room was amazing, (we did opt for a senior room) spotlessly clean and very comfortable!
Breakfast was included and there was loads to choose from and the full Yorkshire was amazing, there was also a varied hot menu available.
actually there was nothing we could say against this hotel and we had a wonderful weekend!!
thank you,
After travelling to York a couple of times a year for the last 20 years, it was our first time using this hotel. Galtres is easily the best hotel that we have stayed in. Our room (5) was cosy, clean and great for people watching. Breakfast was delicious and made to order. You literally cannot get any closer to the city centre and the 25% discount on Shambles Q Carpark was brilliant. The staff were super and nothing was too much trouble for them. We will definitely be staying here again in the near future.
Its location was great. The hotel was clean and the staff were very friendly from reception to the restaurant to the housekeeping. Everything was absolutely marvellous. We had a lovely time. Excellent10 out of 10 Rochelle and the rest of the staff at reception were really so kind, so thoughtful and helpful. We couldn’t six we we. We couldn’t want for anymore. Many thanks to Holiday Inn for having such a very very good team at York city centre hotel
Reception staff were very welcoming. We arrived early but our room was ready so we were all checked in by 2pm.
Room was very nice, clean and spacious and the bed was very comfortable.
Location was perfect and the hotel itself had a very nice feel about it. Exceptionally clean and well maintained and surprisingly quiet for a city centre location.
I would definitely recommend a stay here to anyone wanting a great base for a visit to York.
The room was very spacious, beautiful and comfortable. It is located in York city centre and close to everywhere including the train station. The best part was the spa facility in the hotel, having a good size of swimming pool with jacuzzi. We really enjoyed staying at The Grand York. Also friendly and kind staff. Highly recommended.
