The family room was the perfect size for all 4 of us and our pet dog and the beds were lovely and comfortable. The breakfast was lovely too - was surprised to find warm pancakes!
The staff were especially helpful as it was all last minute due to unforeseen circumstances on Christmas Eve - there's a Toby Inn next door and they were really lovely there too.

Although abounding in reminders of the past, York is very much a city for the here and now, with excellent shops, bars and restaurants, many along the River Ouse. Surrounding it are the medieval city walls – the longest and best preserved in England – and many of the gates that once allowed access to the city.
Walk the walls for wonderful views towards the city and towering York Minster. Standing proud on a hill, this cavernous church is the seat of the Archbishop of York, the 2nd highest position in the Church of England.
A little south is The Shambles, a narrow street with medieval buildings that now house quaint shops. Going further back in time is the Jorvik Centre, a fascinating museum showcasing the city’s Viking remains. You can even have a go at archaeology yourself at the DIG excavation pits, with replica finds from York’s Roman, Viking, medieval and Victorian eras.
Other York attractions include the National Railway Museum, home to the Flying Scotsman and Mallard trains. Around 30 minutes’ drive away is Castle Howard, a stately home with over 1000 acres of grounds.
Leeds-Bradford Airport is the nearest airport, and there is a great range of hotels, B&Bs and guest houses in York and the outskirts available on Booking.com.
York was really lovely. Perhaps the highlight for us was York Minster, make sure you pay the extra £6 for the tower. The Shambles are beautiful and historic as was the whole city really. We also walked on the city walls which was great. History everywhere you look and some lovely pubs.

York is small enough to walk around without needing transport. The river is gorgeous and Shambles area as well. All in all a beautiful town, great restaurants, we ate in The Ivy, Rustique and La Piazza Antica. All 3 were great and the service really good. The Yorvik Centre well worth a visit.

York is an absolute gem, perfect for a weekend getaway or a longer stay. The city is steeped in history, with stunning landmarks like York Minster, the ancient city walls, and the charming Shambles, which feels like stepping back in time. Walking through York is a pleasure—whether you wander along the River Ouse, exploring hidden snickelways, or enjoying the vibrant atmosphere of its shops, cafés, and pubs.
One of the best things about York is how safe and walkable it is. Whether you're out during the day admiring the architecture or taking an evening stroll, the city has a welcoming and relaxed vibe. With fantastic attractions, great food, and plenty of green spaces, York is a city that truly has something for everyone. I highly recommend a visit!

Check in was fine once I found the entrance to The Queens Hotel, down the side street. The Victoria Cloisters were easy enough to find although I did get slightly confused with the key coding for various locks, thinking that the white tagged gate key was for white gates!😊 Lovely modern apartment with just about everything you could need for a short stay. 10 minutes from the railway station and close to the city centre and all that lovely York has to offer.
We’ve stayed here twice now. Perfect location. You don’t have to drive through York traffic on the way in to get to it… but it’s only a 5 minute walk through museum gardens to the city centre. Staff are fantastic. Rooms are wonderfully equipped, clean and beautifully decorated. Marygate car park is directly behind the hotel and it’s never full.
Staff were very friendly. Hotel is fairly close to York city centre (20 minute walk). Street was very quiet and safe. Lots of parking available for cheap. Room met all our expectations with a free small breakfast provided.
Excellent location within a few minutes walk of York Minster and city centre. Hotel was very clean and staff were all very welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast cooked to order and was delicious.
City Centre close to hotel.valet parking beneath hotel is a little cheaper than the carpark opposite. Parking is a problem in York.
Had a room overlooking Clifford's Tower.
