Merewood was an exceptional stay. The old home is gorgeous and the staff was friendly. The rooms themselves had a stunning view, comfy beds, a cozy feel, and were stocked extremely well with toiletries.
The location itself is a bit remote, but we appreciated the quiet. It's easy enough to order a taxi to get to town, just give yourself an extra 10-15 minutes for them to arrive. We absolutely loved our stay and will definitely be returning.

The room was spacious and the bed was great.
The room was spacious and the bed was great. Views were amazing. Heating was controllable. Bathroom a little dated. Great Spa area. All very clean throughout. Polite and welcoming staff. Food was beautiful. Sadly the weather was not conducive to being able to fully take advantage of the outside areas but it was December, so we will go again in better months

Beautiful location, lots to do and see and a great base to visit the Lakes. Plenty of places to dine out with some fantastic restaurants to choose from. We went for Italian - San Pietro in Windermere - delicious food, but be aware does not do Pizza! Parking is the issue in Bowness and Windermere mainly because there is always lots of visitors. However, less busy in the afternoons at this time of year. A visit to Hayes Garden Centre at Ambleside is recommended with its fantastic Christmas display.

This is quite the tourist spot, so plan accordingly.
This is quite the tourist spot, so plan accordingly. We came in fall which had gorgeous foliage. We hiked to the viewpoints, shopped, and took in the breathtaking views. Other parts of the Lake District are easily accessible by car, and highly recommended too. Many people enjoy taking a boat trip from here to see Beatrix Potter's house.
We prefer Ambleside (a 30 minute drive) for restaurants and food, as Windermere caters to tourists. However, we did find a coffee gem at Homeground Coffee + Kitchen! I highly recommend their baked treats!

The building is beautiful and set in an amazing setting right on Bowness on Windermere! The interior is a classic design with some contemporary touches. The room was large as was the bed, lovely and comfy and clean- the water, sweets and tea/coffee/biscuits and shower gels were a lovely touch.
The staff were friendly, smart and really helpful.
I would definitely return for longer to really benefit from all that this hotel offers.
Getting a single room with view over Windermere. Luckily got a parking space on hotel premises; and only had to walk a few yards to the Orrest Bar on the premises to get an adequate meal; rather than go into the town. Continental breakfast ample.
I liked the modern areas of the hotel, in particular the spa. The staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. It's a handy location if you have a car, situated between Bowness-on-Windermere and Ambleside.
The hotel is in a beautiful setting overlooking lake Windermere. The staff couldn’t do enough for you and was fantastic throughout.
Nice spa area to use at additional cost.
