FAQs about hotels in Plymouth

Life By the Ocean Wave

From prehistory to the present, the very essence of Plymouth has been inextricably linked to the sea. The Pilgrim Fathers departed from here and named their new Massachusetts settlement after it, and Sir Francis Drake famously finished his game of bowls on The Hoe before combatting the Spanish Armada.

Western Europe’s largest naval base – HMNB Devonport – is in its natural harbour, and in The Barbican fishing boats bob up and down by cobbled streets lined with historic buildings. Jacka Bakery here is the oldest in Britain and there are plenty of galleries, bars and restaurants, though Union Street has the best nightlife.

At one end of the street is the Theatre Royal, and from the other ferries depart to France and Spain, passing the Mount Batten peninsula and offshore rocks that once housed Smeaton’s Tower lighthouse, now in Hoe Park next to the Royal Citadel.

Overlooking the park is the Lord Mayor’s residence, once home to Waldorf and Nancy Astor, and other street and building names are reminders of Plymouth’s illustrious connections.

Other attractions include the National Marine Aquarium, the City Museum and Art Gallery and Grade II-listed Saltram House. All are easily reached from Booking.com’s Plymouth accommodation, including luxury hotels with swimming pools, cheap guest houses and country houses with parking.

A lovely little harbourfront with a lot of History, especially for our American Cousins (maybe less so for the Spanish ;-) Lots of choices of things to do and a great selection of Restaurants etc. We loved the Himalayan Indian restaurant - intimate with great food. The city centre itself is a little past it's prime, as are many older historic UK seaside Cities. 3 Days is more than enough to get a good take on it.

Plymouth has a lot to offer for all ages/family.

Plymouth has a lot to offer for all ages/family. Our favourite was the Aquarium which has an annual pass for repeat visits. The harbour, town, swing bridge and cycle paths etc all help to Plymouth's attraction. There is a wide variety for eating out including fine dining. We ate at Miller & Carter Steakhouse one evening and would highly recommend them. Traffic can be an issue. Parking does seem to be challenging and costly as some paid durations go from 1hr to 3hrs and the charging is 24hrs ie no FOC after 8pm etc.

The Barbican is great so much to see and do, places to eat and drink and a beautiful harbour. Super boat trip round the naval yard only £12 each commentary given on route so you know what's what. Drake Centre for shopping, lots of big name shops. King William Yard great for eating, drinking or just having a wander. The Hoe for wonderful views and a stroll.

We fit in loads for an overnight birthday celebration staycation. Paradise island crazy golf was a fantastic activity, we walked the old town, hoe and park having a bite to eat and drinks along the way. We had dinner booked at Salumi which was truly another level then did a cocktail crawl The Treasuary being a great venu. The next morning was spent at the National marine aquarium and the Mayflower museum before home. All that we did I would recommend to anyone and if you needed a place to stay in plymouth hands down The Craft House is the place you want. Happy travels x

I really enjoyed the trip to Plymonth. Nice city with a lot of restaurants, you can walk around or you can have a trip with ferry. Nice cathedral, nice parks, live music, concerts with popular rock bands or pop singers.

I received a warm welcome at this family-run hotel in a superb location just minutes away from Plymouth Hoe. My room was very clean and comfortable. There is a wide breakfast choice served by a friendly and efficient waitress in a light and airy room- no windowless basement breakfast room here as I have encountered elsewhere! I will be making several trips to Plymouth and it took me a while to find the right place to stay. I am happy to have finally found the Invicta as it meets all my needs.

Staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. Always happy to help with any issues or questions. Comfortable bed and great view from both the room and restaurant. Breakfast was good, with a wide specialist selection alongside the standard full English. Reception staff are knowledgeable about both the hotel and the area. The location was great for reaching the harbour and other city center points of interest. Definitely the best choice for a hotel in central Plymouth.

Room was good size and beds were big and comfortable. All very clean. Car park is big so no trouble parking which is a bonus in Plymouth! Location is out of Plymouth city centre which we knew and not a problem for our purposes but might be for some. Would definitely use this hotel again when visiting Plymouth. Fast check in.

We love this hotel! The best in Plymouth for value for money. We could stay in a B&B but bringing our dog, and having such a great bar along with great music in a fun environment is amazing.
