Newquay has that laidback feel that goes hand in hand with being England’s undisputed surfing capital. The centre of the action is Fistral Beach whose swells and Cribbar Reef produce some of the largest breakers in the British Isles. The long, sandy beach is backed by tall dunes which give way to Newquay Golf Club.
Great Western Beach lies below sheer cliffs one street from the train station, while Towan Beach by the picturesque harbour is the closest to the town centre. Tolcarne Beach is sheltered in its own bay, as is the wide stretch of sand at Porth Beach whose northern coastline is 2 rocky headlands joined by a narrow footbridge over the sea.
Each beach is overlooked by luxury hotels with spas, cheap hostels and self-catering apartments on Booking.com. All are surrounded by Newquay’s restaurants, bars and clubs which offer the best nightlife this side of Bristol.
More leisurely pursuits include Trerice manor house in the countryside near the Lappa Valley Steam Railway. Buccaneer Bay and the Blue Reef Aquarium are popular with families, as are Waterworld and Newquay Zoo within Trenance Gardens.
Another favoured spot for a walk are the salt marshes by the River Gannel which is a prominent sight as you descend into Newquay Cornwall Airport.

out of the summer season, Newquay is lovely, friendly people and facilities are great wuithout being overcrowded. Obviously in January many things are shut for the winter but what we went for, a winter break, what we needed was open.

I have family living just outside Newquay, that was the reason for my recent visit. I appreciate my stay was “ out of season “ but Newquay itself was a big disappointment. I found it very run down and dirty, dog mess on the pavements, people standing on corners drinking beer and that was 9.30 am
Most of the big hotels seem to be shut down along with the nice shops that used to be there. It didn’t feel safe enough for me to take a walk in the evening
It seems that gone are the happy family holiday times, I certainly wouldn’t take my grandchildren there , in fact my next visit will be 2026 when my niece gets married but I will be looking for somewhere out of town to stay

I lived in Newquay for thirty years.
I lived in Newquay for thirty years. In the summer it has been a great place to stay, but now, like so many English seaside towns, it is rundown and in need of serious maintenance and investment. The local beaches are perfect for family holidays if the weather is good, otherwise it is difficult to entertain kids without spending a fortune. Perranporth, a smaller seaside town ten miles north of Newquay is cleaner and, in my opinion, a better option for families who want an old-fashioned family holiday.

Beautiful part of the world with the most incredible walks, views and cafes with views. So many beautiful places to see you need at least a week to do just part of it. Would highly recommend to blow away the cobwebs!

Newquay is a great place to visit with many lovely beaches and cliff walks nearby - overall stunning scenery.
There are a great variety of food and drinks establishments.
Even in the off season there is still a lot going on, but with a lot less traffic than in high season!!
The roads are generally good outside of the town, but a bit narrow with lots of one way roads in town.
The bus services round Cornwall appear great and offer easy travel around as well.

A little bit out of the centre of Newquay, but hourly buses if you don't want to drive. Lovely quieter beaches locally, but access can be difficult with people with disabilities. Also, no lift at the hotel. I would have liked a bit of variation with the full English. I e. Sometimes beans would have been a nice change, or the option of scrambled egg rather than fried overall good value for money. Laura and Kev were the perfect hosts and I would hope we can return in the future. X
I really can't understand why Sarah has any negative reviews. After staying at a hotel by fistral beach we stayed here for our last night. The room at Sarahs place was lovely and we both wished we'd stayed there the whole time.
It was much better value for money but still lovely
Its five minutes up the road from a lovely beach and about ten minutes from the Newquay centre.
She also does an amazing breakfast in the mornings, don't miss out on this little gem of a bnb
Well located just above Newquay town centre, cute and very well kept. The landlady and the rest of the staff were lovely and welcoming. Cheap and good selection of beers and ciders on offer to take to the little balcony in the back. Only had the breakfast once, but it was very good.
We had a lovely time in Newquay and the guesthouse was really nice. The staff is super friendly and the location was perfect as it’s close to the beach and the city centre. Our room was very clean and comfortable. We would always go there again and can highly recommend it :)
Great hotel, simple but exceed my expectations for the price. Marissa (the girl from reception) did everything to make us feel at home. The hotel is very close to the beach and also city centre.
