A beautiful car-free village in the Swiss Alps, Zermatt is world-famous for its skiing and mountaineering qualities. Standing in the shadow of the impressive Matterhorn, this is a true Alpine paradise, popular with both celebrities and citizens of all nationalities.
Surrounded by stunning mountains and plenty of hiking trails, Zermatt offers more than just pretty views. The nearby Sunnegga Paradise ski area needs to be accessed by 3 successive means of transport: a funicular railway, a gondola and a cable car, making it a great ride with an even better finish! And in Zermatt, there is still even more!
This lovely village is a great base for hiking on the nearby Breithorn, the easiest trek of the entire Alps, rewarding the effort with a great panorama of the snow-covered mountain tops and charming villages below.

Zermatt is unbeatable for combination of Switzerland and Alpine. The nature speaks for itself it's just breathtakingly gorgeous. Hidden gems here and there. Everything is excellently maintained and it's a cute little town with everything from delicious food to shopping. I did three days - it was prefect length for me. For hikers, recommend getting a pass for the full duration of the stay which gives you access to the whole mountain region (including the Gornergrat train) instead of paying separate rides. Recommend to visit the Matterhorn Museum - it's well worth it. Zermatt is super accessible for getting around anywhere - and to and from other Swiss cities. They have the cutest valais blacknose sheep and wildlife for those love nature and photography.

Zermatt is a perfect base to discover Swiss Alps.
Zermatt is a perfect base to discover Swiss Alps. Plenty of cable car routes and ski lifts around, as well as nice walking routes. And Matterhorn of course, we couldn't stop observing it all the time from different points and angles.
Very easy to get around on foot, there are also electric riding taxis (which seemed to be not necessary at all for us, but if you come with a lot of luggage and kids I guess they would be really helpful).
The food choice in the local cafes and restaurants seemed disappointing though, quality was good but all the places served the same dishes, were overpriced and felt very touristic. Very challenging if you are a vegetarian and don't feel like eating cheese all the time. Can't even guess what vegans could eat there. Fortunately, there are few supermarkets.
The place that stood out was The North Wall bar, they only had pizza and salads (plus few starters, dessert and nice beers), but they tasted extremely good and fresh and were definitely made and served with love and care. The place also had great cozy and friendly atmosphere, so much better than in the crowded touristic places.

The shuttle buses in the village to the ski lifts are frequent.
Excellent choice of ski runs. The slopes well groomed and were not crowded.
Great choice of restaurants in Zermatt village and on the mountain. Chez Vroni's on the mountain was booked out but there is a small area right next to the restaurant with Matterhorn views, where you can order food and drinks off a smaller menu. This included the Vroni burger. Our order came quicklly and was hot. We had a wonderful day skiing!!

It could have been better if there are signage of slippery snows when it harden at Glacier paradise, that are visible to all tourists. Or maybe a reminder from the staff in the ticketing office before boarding the train. I slept and hurt my back.

Beautiful location for walks, fantastic for seeing the Matterhorn, right next to the cable car.
Best to take the bus( free travel, right across from the station - Zermatt), red or green line to Hotel otherwise it’s a 15-20 min walk from station.
Had a wonderful breakfast.
Note: no cooking facilities in the room, but on request we got a kettle for making tea ;) very happy with our stay.
> Breakfast was better than most of the hotels serve in Switzerland. Limited options for vegetarians though
> We had opted for a room with a balcony and it was the best decision we took. The views were to die for!
> The staff were really nice
> It is 5 min walk to everything in the town
> The heating system was installed in the bathroom as well
The hotel overall is quite nice, very central location, in the middle of Zermatt and 3 min from the train station. The staff was superb, which is often a rare find in Switzerland. I can also praise the hotel for the interesting design and nice wellness zone idea. Breakfast was also pretty good, modest choice, but great quality of food.
