We only stay one night in Tokyu Rei Hotel - Nagano before we heading to Kanazawa. The location is great near the Nagano station. The hotel are not so crowded, and very comfort for the bed. The Japanese style breakfast so vary. that's a good part of the hotel.

We took a trip from Nagano up to Jigokudani to see the snow monkeys and it was fabulous! I know you can stay closer to the park but staying in Nagano gave us a chance to look around the city while also being able to travel to the park quite easily to see the Monkeys.

Nagano was a bit of a surprise for us really.
Nagano was a bit of a surprise for us really. We stayed two nights so that we could go and see the snow monkeys. Unfortunately although we did see some monkey we felt the snow park experience was very over hyped and would not recommend it, However, we really liked Nagano. A really nice town. The Zenjoki temple was a really nice surprise - fabulous collection of temples and shrines all backed by gorgeous mountains. The nearby art gallery is ultra modern - fantastic architecture and really interesting art. We could have stayed longer and will probably return again.

There is a lot to see and do in Nagano that I didn't expect.
There is a lot to see and do in Nagano that I didn't expect. Zenkoji Temple was an exceptional experience and highly recommend getting the combined ticket to access all aspects of the temple. The station offers regular shopping as well as a lot of souvenir stores with local specialties. Did not have enough time to see the old Olympic facilities but would have been fun to explore. Overall, it was fun to explore and would definitely recommend at least two days.

The ryokan is only steps away from Zenko-Ji temple and thus very convenient to go to the monks procession and chanting at 5:30 am.
We had a traditional Japanese room and it was a nice experience. Also enjoyed the public bath house in the ryokan.
A bus from the train station took about 50 minutes to get to the beginning of the 2 km. walk up to the snow monkeys park. There are a few food places and restrooms.
Excellent staff. Room was nice with a seating area and didn't feel too overly cramped. The breakfast was a range of western and japanese style food, so it should suit anybody. There are laundry facilites and there is a lawson down right next to the hotel. The location was super close to Nagano Station. Well worth the price (which wasn't even that much).
The hotel is very well located in the centre of Nagano city, 3 minutes from the main station and close access to most of the location to visit. The staff is nice and polite, and the hotel itself is quite clean. Even if the room is a little small, it's practical, clean for an affordable price. The bed were quite comfortable.
Very good hotel close to main train station in Nagano (5 minutes walk). Very clean and very good equipped room. Staff very helpful and professional. Breakfast was amazing and delicious in the restaurant on the 12-th floor.
