Porto is a bigger city than you might imagine, and can be very busy in peak times, even at the end of September. It is both spectacular, with the old tiled buildings, river gorge and bridges, and steep for the less mobile among us. The tourist buses were very usable, but the commentaries are poor, so take a guide book!
Eating out is easy, and the standard of food is high, with plenty of choice.
Food and drink costs are low compared to the UK, with good and friendly service. English is very widely spoken.
Enjoy a river cruise and a port tasting experience, and don't miss the market off pedestrianised Santa Caterina.

Porto is an amazing city.
Porto is an amazing city. It is a charming city with colorful houses, trams, slopes, vibrant daily life and friendly people. I recommend you to explore its streets with plenty of walks. Be sure to attend a Fado show (Fado No Porto). Escama, Taberna dos mercadores are the restaurants I would recommend. WOW in Gaia district is also a must-see. Enjoy PORTO 🇵🇹

Almost everything within walking distance from town center which is very convenient for visitors. Unfortunately, there are road works everywhere which make the little city even more little. We will visit again hoping to see a more well-constructed Porto.

One of my favourite cities ever! So much to see and explore! So much to taste and savour! The conga bifanas, the Brasao Aliados Francesinha and one of the best restaraunts we have ever dined at - Bacalhau in the Ribeira! Such an easy city to explore on foot, cross the phenomenal D.Luis bridge, climb the Clerigos Tower, and so much more!

Porto is a beautiful city and very easy no navigate around. It is a very walkable city.
After our 10 days on the Douro, we enjoyed it that much that we caught the tourist train up and back along the length of the river to the Spanish border and back

Ribeira is very vibrant, and the iron bridge crossing to Gaia is a treat, especially the high crossing.
Port cellars are worth a tour, but a little bit rushed.
Nice cafes and bars.
6 bridge boat tour with Tomaz do douro, disappointing, too crowded and herded like cattle, commentary taped and difficult to hear, avoid.
Bus service insufficient.
Monet experience truly fantastic.
It's a really lovely hotel - with character yet modern. Is on one of the main central streets and almost everything you may want to do in Porto is within a 10-15 min walking distance from here. Despite being on a busy street, it's actually very peaceful and quiet in the rooms.
The staff however were just exceptional - nothing was too much, they were really friendly and helpful with plenty of suggestions and tips on what to do and what to see around Porto. Was our favourite stay in a 2 week trip in Portugal.
We were looking for a good value hotel for our last night in Portugal and Pao de Acucar was ideal for this. Location was great, near the main train station with good metro and bus connections. Easy to walk down to the river. Room was bigger than we were expecting and the shower was great. The receptionist who greeted us was very helpful and spoke excellent English.
This was our favourite hotel in 2 weeks of travel in Portugal. The staff were extremely helpful, friendly, and engaging. Breakfast was delicious. We will stay at this boutique hotel again and would highly recommend to others.
We stayed here on our visit in 2019. We decided to stay again in 2022 now that we have moved to Portugal. We love the hotel. In operation since 1905. The rooms are for sleeping but have all the comforts needed.
Fantastic breakfast homemade jam and cake. The staff were so helpful too. The location was central and we even found a bakery opposite - Bread in Portugal such a treat.
