I visit family all over Guadalajara and Lake Chapala.
I visit family all over Guadalajara and Lake Chapala. The city has great neighborhoods with markets and typical Mexican food. There are so many malls and open air shopping centers with wonderful restaurants. Shops that include H&M, The Gap and Mango (European shop) are everywhere. The service is welcoming and quick at most restaurants. There are plenty of bars, steakhouses, burger and pizza stops to enjoy a variety of foods. La Magdalena restaurant at Landmark plaza was exceptional.

Guadalajara was a great surprise.
Guadalajara was a great surprise. I am fairly well-traveled and would place Guadalajara with cities way above it's size as far as cuisine- especially if you're talking value for money. There are also some beautiful museums and cultural sites to visit. Good for 5-7 days if you're doing a working vacation maybe 3-5 if you're just on vacation.

I wish I could like this town, but I didn't.
I wish I could like this town, but I didn't. Getting around is a hassle if you are not on the main metro lines. Taxis are tough unless you have Uber, which is a criticism. No-one should have to Uber. City architecture is mostly decorated sheds. Car dealership on top of car dealership, with an occational hardware store and air conditioning repair store interspersed. Historical district resembles all other colonial historical districts in former Spanish holdings (colonialism is bad, m'kay?), Also, if you are arriving from the EU, some debit cards don't work over there. The difference between Castilian Spanish, which I have learnt, and latinoamerican Spanish can create problems in communication in day-to-day life.

Overall the people are friendly.
Overall the people are friendly. Lots of restaurants and attractions to see. It reminds me of a chill version of Mexico City. I love the fact that it is pretty safe and walkable for a solo female traveler. This was my second visit there and I enjoyed the atmosphere.

I've stayed a few times for one-night stopovers. Heading somewhere in Mexico. I find it best to reserve a week in advance. They have two quick taco puestos/restaurants three minutes walk. And a half dozen more restaurants a 15 to 20 min walk. The area is a famous Guadalajara landmark - called the nine-corners and is fabulous for foodies.
This is a lovely hotel in central Guadalajara. Our room and the hallways around it were spotlessly clean, everything polished to perfection. Our room was spacious and comfortable. Lots of hot water in the shower. Easy parking on the ground level. A short walk to either the main plaza or in the other direction to Col. America.
The staff were extremely friendly and always available, even when I arrived from the airport at 5:45am. Hostel is located a half a block from the city-wide bicycle loaning station. Easy walking distance to the Centro and the Colonia Americana
Very good hotel in Guadalajara. A good swimming pool. Clean room and good location and a good restaurant in the hotel. They kept my stuff in the fridge.
