For me it was the first time in Baku. The city is well accessible by plane and people are very friendly. The old town is very touristic and houses multiple hotels, many restaurants with good local food, and several shops where you can buy local products and souvenirs. The city is renewing fast and there are many modern iconic buildings. Some of them are open for the public and a visit is recommended.
The city is clean and well maintained. You can walk safely through the city as a foreigner.

Baku is a nice city but I had enough with 3 days to see the main attractions.
I want to warn all the travelers: Please avoid checking in at the Malakan Boutique Nizami Hotel (booking number 4687522870). They notified Booking that I didn’t check-in on 2024-09-03 when I actually did check in and stayed at this complete dive for 3 nights. Having asked to be picked up at the airport, they didn’t. They were really nasty to me in all aspects. Dodgy place, dodgy staff. The room was a disgrace. The bathroom was a disgrace and hazardous. The toilet was not working, the sink was broken, the shower didn’t work. They didn’t want to give me another room or repair the shower. At first, they refused to issue a payment receipt but finally I got it after nearly fighting for it. A terrible experience at a place full with conmen. Boutique hotel? Not a chance! The room was all deshivelled, stinky and full with ants crawling around. Dodgy wifi too. Even the picture of the hotel in Booking is false. The entrance to the hotel and the elevator are disastrous. This place shouldn’t show in Booking. Hope this comment can help other travelers not to trust the people running the Malakan.

Baku is an exciting city with lots to do. Great restaurants.
Baku is an exciting city with lots to do. Great restaurants. (Sahil was my personal favourite) Lots of places to walk around and plenty of history to absorb.
Taxis (Uber, Bolt, etc) are easy to get but the driving was often scary - felt every taxi driver was practicing to race in the formula 1!

Amazing city rich with culture and good food. Good people.
Amazing city rich with culture and good food. Good people. Worth trying once in a lifetime. Please make sure to convert your money. Make sure to choose your hotel mid city so that every thing is within walking distance. Keep 2 days for exploring Baku and 2 other days to explore the rest of the cities worth visiting.
Most Amazing Hotel with probably the best and most friendly hospitality and staff. Location was fantastic and right in the centre of the city with an amazing array of restaurants, shops and touristic attractions footsteps distance from the hotel. Rooms are beautiful and most comfortable, clean and hygienic. Food is fantastic. I was overwhelmed with the friendly and professional service provided by staff at every level and look forward to my next visit so that I can once again reside at the Merchant in Baku.
Breakfast was good with standard varieties. The highlight of the hotel is the location and Ms. Nigar, who very efficiently helped us plan our trips. She was very kind and made sure our trips are executed effectively.
