It first came to fame during the Industrial Revolution for its pioneering role in the UK steel industry. One technique invented here is commemorated in the name of its most famous theatre – The Crucible, home of the Snooker World Championships.
Close by are the peaceful Winter Gardens with their multi-arched roof. The Peace Gardens are overlooked by the elegant town hall, and the focal building of the impressive Botanical Gardens somewhat resembles Crystal Palace, also by the same architect.
The city’s 2 football teams – Sheffield United and Wednesday – play at Bramall Lane and Hillsborough Stadium respectively. The cutting-edge English Institute of Sport is also based here, and the nearby Sheffield Arena is a prime UK venue for music and entertainment. The best shopping is found in the Meadowhall Centre near Rotherham.

Last in Sheffield in 2008, was amazed at the changes, loved the Rail Station and surrounding landscaping. Everybody was so friendly and helpful. Millennium Gallery is a treat of Art and History (also has free City Map). Peace Garden is spectacular, loved all the water features and around the Town Hall. City Taxis were easy and quick and mostly chatty drivers. Taxi from station was expensive, less than half a mile and even though I gave him full address and post code we drove around for quite a while. Lack of visible street names even with a map we had difficulty getting around on foot, not helped by all the works for pedestrianisation of large areas. Would love to see more, sunshine all the way.

Sheffield is such a friendly place, with so much to do.
Sheffield is such a friendly place, with so much to do. Great bars and restaurants, football, Meadowhall shopping centre, cricket, The Leadmill for music, a wide variety of options for a good long w/e away. Beautiful countryside on the doorstep. Crucible theatre, also used for snooker championships. Try it - highly recommend.

Sheffield has something for everyone.
Sheffield has something for everyone. City centre shopping and culture. A huge choice of local cafes, bars, restaurants and pubs (& micro breweries) in the Eccleshall Road area. Also enjoyed Kelham Island & the steel museum. Only a 15 minute drive to Hope Valley and the beautiful Peak District. Good value taxis and even free city buses too. Amazing train service at affordable prices that seem to travel to every corner of Britain. We truly loved our short stay and will definitely be back.

Currently Sheffield is renovating its city centre roads. If you are visiting by car you should expect some upheaval, though to be honest it was not too bad. I like Sheffield - which years ago I did not. Much to do.

Good bus routes to Peak District.
Good bus routes to Peak District. Visited Heights of Abraham one day and Buxton spa and Poole's Cavern the next.
Limited food stops close to hotel but recommend 15mins walk to London Road where range of oriental cuisines for take away or sit in.
Transport around Sheffield excellent with frequent bus and tram services.
And when your there, don't miss the Crucible Theatre and the Kelham Island Museum. Plus Ponds Forge if you're into aquatic sports.
Didn’t have breakfast, room was clean, comfortable and one of the best rooms I have stayed in at this price range, the bed was so comfortable. Excellent staff, polite and attentive, location is perfect for the city centre. I am in Sheffield regularly and will definitely stay again. Facilities at hotel are also excellent, gym and pool are very good, they also have an amazing playroom for babies and young children, which my little granddaughter loved. For me this is a 10 out 10 hotel.
Friendly staff and they are very helpful too, the Hotel is close to Sheffield Arena, Meadowhall Shopping Centre and the City Centre too, the rooms are very comfortable with en suite shower and toilet. Drinks machine can be found in reception
great location close to station and city centre. TV and WiFi are both included in room fare, you don’t get it in other easy hotels! The fare is cheap, I get what I get. A very good cafe just nearby, bonus point!
Close to city centre, cheapest hotel I could find compared to Premier Inn, holiday Inn etc , staff was polite and got to check in early, rooms were big and clean , had a pleasant stay , thanks
