FAQs about hotels in Brighton & Hove

Colourful by Day and Night

Known for colourful nightlife and traditional English seaside pursuits, Brighton and neighbour Hove are the closest beach resorts to London, making them popular end points for classic car runs from the capital. Many end at the racecourse, a few streets from Brighton Marina, Europe’s largest, housing several shops and eateries. Many Brighton guest houses on Booking.com are also nearby.

Running along the beachfront is the world’s oldest operating electric railway, ending by Brighton Pier. Lit up at night and also known as Palace Pier, this city icon houses amusements and rides, and is one place to pick up some famous Brighton Rock, the confectionery sharing its name with an edgy Graham Greene novel set here.

A new addition, the Brighton Wheel is right by the pier, while one of its most famous attractions is the Royal Pavilion, a former royal retreat built in Indian style.

Just west are 2 of the most popular Brighton shopping spots – Churchill Square shopping centre and The Lanes with its narrow streets and unusual shops. This area also has several Brighton hotels with parking, and the Artists Quarter, a series of ex-fishing huts that are now galleries. The arts are a big thing here and Brighton Festival is the UK’s 2nd largest arts festival, while Brighton Pride is also a big event on the annual calendar.

Lovely walks on promenade and beachfront.

Lovely walks on promenade and beachfront. Brighton Pier a definite visit. Walking around The Lanes a definite. Captains on beachfront best fish and chips. Lots of buses to get around if you want to travel a bit further. Pavilion a beautiful building. Marina is lovely with lots of eating and drinking places. You can park in Asda car park at the Marine really cheaply. Go on YourParkingSpace. Then get the No.7 bus into Brighton centre. So cheap compared to parking in Brighton.

    Beach with buzz.

Beach with buzz. Brighton has the beauty of the beach and the sea, with a lively vibe on top. Fine choice of restaurants and cafés with different cuisines — I tried Mexican and Turkish on this trip but there are loads of others. Good shopping too — lots of independent shops especially in The Lanes.

    Brighton is a strange place.

Brighton is a strange place. There is so much potential but I feel something is or has gone very wrong with this city. Many of the beautiful old buildings are crumbling and in a terrible state of repair and it looks like some are being demolished which is slightly tragic. There is a LOT of homelessness and a lot of people who are clearly addicted to drugs and/or alcohol. There is a general air of shabbiness and an "edge" that I did not like. That said, I ate in some fantastic restaurants and a walk along the sea front at 8am in the morning was lovely.

There are so many places to eat and drink, which have out door eating areas so the atmosphere was lively and seemed happy. Most places seem to be within walking distance. The Brighton Dome and other theatres are within walking distance of the Lanes, we ate at Riddle and Finns and had a fantastic meal. Our meal was amazing and our server 'Sitty (or Ciitty) was brilliant. We loved the fact that everything was so available, we walked everywhere, there is also great shopping from small independent shops to larger retail shops. The area is diverse and welcoming.

Treated my friend to one night away as a Thank You and the Mecure was a great location opposite the beach but not totally in the thick of Brighton proper. On one of the hottest days, the air on was very welcome. Best thing about this hotel has to be the staff, they were outstanding! From all different backgrounds and nationalities, there was a sense of team, community and warmth from all of our interactions. You really couldn’t fault the service. Room/beds were comfortable. Highly recommend.

Our stay at Ibis Brighton was good: the room was clean, and the hotel is located in a nice area from where you can go around the city just walking. Also the experience with parking was good: the parking the hotel suggest you is 5 minutes walking from the hotel, you can park your car there and at the end of the stay they will apply 50% discount if you show them the reservation.
