A very frequent place I come to work and retreat. It maintains it's unique charm that you have to come experience yourself. No matter how much I complain about the place, traffic especially, I always leave with a heavy heart.

Safe and vibrant town with lots of street art and good food. Also much more pedestrian friendly than a lot of other cities in Malaysia, and Rapid Penang system is quite reliable (as long as you have loose cash on you). Some nice beaches to have a picnic, watch the sunset or tan on, but just wish the water wasn't polluted and filled with jellyfish so people can swim safely. I went on a walking tour to see the street art, explored Little India, went skateboarding at Gurney Bay and stopped by a beach bar - overall a great place with friendly locals and very cheap food if you go to the right places.

The seaside places are far away from the city.
The seaside places are far away from the city. However, the city has its own great attractions, the UNESCO heritage areas are charming. The island is rustic and great for walks and cafes for coffee and meals. Going up Penang Hill and the KLS temple is fun too. Grab taxi is readily available to get you around.

some within walking distance and others we took grab which is quite cheap to move around.

"George Town in Penang is a very old and quiet town, and most shops close early, though some restaurants remain open. But it doesn't have that much diversity. If I were to visit again, I would choose a full-service resort and explore the town at my leisure."
The hotel lobby area was great, the restaurant food was delicious. The room was clean and spacious, the location is amazing, and we found out that we could visit the other Bayview Hotel in Batu Ferringhi and use the pool with our key cards. The hotel is surrounded by a huge blend of various cultures and communities, and you can easily walk around and see many interesting things.

Brilliant Lotus mall and supermarket a ten minute walk away - really good street food market hall directly opposite.
Wonderful hotel in the heart of George Town. It felt like a step back in time, the historical building brought back to new life. The staff was truely friendly and helpul. We especially enjoyed the complimentary daily afternoon tea including snacks of the local cuisine. Great!
