Good food - local food aplenty and very delicious.
Good food - local food aplenty and very delicious. Seafood was very good and cheap. Many things to do: drive to durian plantations for durians, beaches, batik factory, vivid wall murals, Penang Hill, driving around, shopping, massages, etc. The tourist counter at airport provides many useful booklets of places to eat, visits and things to do. Easy to drive around with a rented car from airport. We like Penang!

George Town is a perfect mix of beach side vibes , business of a city and old town culture. We spent 3 days there, but would recommend staying for at least 5 days to really experience the place.
Our highlights were:
Penang Hill
The beaches
Eating at various Hawker markets
Armenian Street
Upside down museum
Buses were easy to navigate, but were a little unreliable at times. Make sure you have correct money (RM 2) for each time you use the bus, or if you are planning on using the buses a lot, get a visitor rapid passport.
Street art was great, too!

Georgetown has great places of interest to visit.
Georgetown has great places of interest to visit. Please do consider visiting Gama Mall - its a splendid 7 storeys high comprises of supermarket, food court and amazing clothings, shoes, household items and even children sections.
Also, please drink lots of water when u are in Penang. The weather was scorching hot and my family definitely drank so much water during our stay there.
Visiting Penang hill is good but be patience for a ride on the Gondola. You will clock in many steps visiting places there.

You can spend up to a week in George Town exploring the food, architecture and culture that it has to offer. One of the highlights for us was the Hin Bus Depot weekend market where you can get artisanal products and enjoy the creative, artistic vibe.
For more historical insights, do visit the Pinang Peranakan Museum. Spent a lovely afternoon there and ended up with a very delectable lunch at the restaurant next to it. A must visit.
Taste the variety of delectable food that the night markets have to offer. However, for those of you without a sweet tooth, would advise you learn to use the phrase 'kurang manis' when ordering drinks.

I decided to visit Georgetown, Penang spontaneously without knowing much about it. What an incredible discovery! Known as the food capital of Malaysia and a UNESCO World Heritage site, this place completely exceeded my expectations.
I was amazed to find a small town where four religions—Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism—coexist peacefully within such a close community.
Georgetown is also a vibrant canvas of street art and graffiti, showcasing the creativity of its people. The locals are warm and welcoming, and the food... absolutely delicious! From local street cafes in little India to trendy cafes, every meal was a new adventure. Add to that a lively nightlife scene, and you've got a perfect blend of culture, history, and modern energy.
Georgetown is truly a place to visit!

Loved my stay here in this hotel! It is a medium to high budget but worth it for being right in the middle of things, a short walk from the ferry and right next to lots of George Town's restaurants and street art. The staff here were thoughtful and very helpful with any requests I had. They went out of their way to point me towards local festivals and nearby attractions worth seeing. Wifi was great for working, zoom calls and internet work. View of the sea from the room was also really nice to Would recommend highly!
Hotel Penaga is a beautiful property that has been lovingly and elegantly restored. Our room was simply one of the most beautiful rooms I have ever stayed in anywhere in the world. The atmosphere in the hotel is calm and the staff are helpful. It is extremely clean. The bathroom had a bath and a shower, both with funky settings and jet streams. It has a lovely little shady garden. It’s in a great position for exploring George Town.
Smart hotel, with large suite and beautiful views in our case certainly.
Located between central George Town and Batu Ferengghi, but either accessed by bus or the ever reliable, quick and cheap Grab taxis.
Brilliant Lotus mall and supermarket a ten minute walk away - really good street food market hall directly opposite.
