The room was very nice with plenty space, great matress on a double bed (quite rare nowadays). Bathroom more than adequate. Breakfast was varied with plenty to choose from . The location is quite beautiful as it was an old fishing village transformed into a hotel. And it is in the middle of a bird santuary and salinas(the process of taking salt from the sea)

The city is beautiful, much to see and do. We happened to arrive at the end of a festival, so we had the good fortune to see some of the festivities and booths, which added a festive atmosphere. Clean, easy to navigate and plenty of good restaurants to choose from. One of our favorite places we visited!

Unfortunately we didn't like it very much.
Unfortunately we didn't like it very much. To go to the beach we would have had to take the ferry boat which we didn't want to do. Maybe we didn't see enough to get a good picture of the place.

Tavira is a lovely small town in Eastern Algarve.
Tavira is a lovely small town in Eastern Algarve. There is the Gilao river across it, with nice old and new bridges. The castle is also worth visiting, as well as an old town with tiny, winding streets. But the whole town is really small, you can easily walk everywhere.
There was a festival in early September about the Mediterranean Diet, with cooking shows, concerts, lots of local products on sale and much more.
We stayed in Cabanas de Tavira, which is some 5km from the town itself, a calm and friendly holiday resort. For it, but also for the whole Tavira area the seafront beaches are on a long sand dune (island), which is separated from the mainland by the Ria Formosa, a river-like saltwater lagoon. You can get over to the beach with either boats that run every 5 minutes (a return ticket costing 1.5 EUR per person) or at some places, pedestrian bridges.

You get the best of both worlds in Tavira - the feel of an historic old town and a lovely trip to the beach via the ferry. Lovely restaurants and bars.
Auroura - beautiful steak house, bit pricey but worth it.
O Patio, O Tonel, Tempero Caseiro (cheap but really tasty) and Canhala.
Bishops Square - pop by and see Leonardo in his pastelaria/restaurant/bar - cheapest wine in the town but always, always busy.

A charming town and free from high rise apartment blocks or huge hotels. Full of character and interest. The beaches are close by and a few can be accessed by ferry about 15 minute ride away. Others by bus or uber.
A few restaurants really hit the spot: Come Na Gaveta, Pausa, O Castelo and Artefact.
The castle is worth a visit and most places are walkable. Comfortable shoes a must as the streets are cobblestones.
Philippa host us in the junior suite room, who has perfectly clean, nice and comfy. It was huge, with a big bed. the view was amazing. Perfectly calm. The staff are extremely nice. We only stayed two nights but we wanted to stay more. The breakfast is amazing. It was just the best hotel in Algarve. Kids were so happy. Thank you so much Philippa !
Wonderful place to stay in Tavira. Right across from the ferry to Tavira Island with its beautiful and chill beach. I old town. Great on a budget - all you need, the breakfast was great. Best part was the staff - all very kind and friendly - always smiling. Comfortable beds.
We enjoyed getting the ferry to the island to enjoy the beautiful beaches. Breakfast was adequate with plenty of choices. Pool bar was great, good cocktails and snacks. Hotel in quiet location away from town.
The quality of the food and the size of the rooms was excellent. Staff so friendly - as was everyone in the Algarve. Would highly recommend this hotel. Tavira is also a lovely town.
