Évora is a beacon of heritage in the heart of rural Portugal. Life is played out among narrow, cobbled streets and whitewashed buildings that provide welcome shade. Most buildings are decorated with blue or yellow trim, giving this laidback city a coherent feel.
Blue tiles adorn the incredible interior of the Misericórdia Church, and the Church of St John the Evangelist also features this typical Alentejo style. The most outlandish is the Church of St Francis where one chapel is created entirely from human bones and skulls.
The Gothic cathedral has a peaceful cloister and next door is Évora Museum with its collection of medieval, Islamic and Roman artefacts. In the large square in front sit remains of the Roman Temple, and Roman bath ruins lie under the town hall.
The Palace of the Dukes of Cadaval has a turret-like tower, similar to those in the city walls. One of Évora’s most impressive monuments – the 16th-century Silver Water Aqueduct – passes right through the walls and used to end in large Praça do Giraldo, the city centre’s main square. Some of its stone arches have been cleverly bricked in to create bars and restaurants.
Booking.com’s accommodation in Évora includes luxury hotels with pools, cheap hostels near the train station and guest houses by the university.

Évora is a very interesting village with more than meets the eye. It is ideal for a day trip or a 2-3/night stay. I think it is nice to point out that most of the attractions and culture are heavily related to religion, so if that's not one's cup of tea, then I would not recommend it as much. The town is also very quiet - it has many shops and people and all the necessities - but there is no traffic which makes it an ideal weekend getaway from big cities, like Lisbon.

We loved walking around the old city, visiting the Chapel of Bones and Roman ruins. We enjoyed eating lunch in the Praca do Giraldo. Highly recommend Balcoa da Praca restaurant. If you love history, we highly recommend taking a guided tour with Sira Camacho with Evora Megalithica (eboramegalithica.com)--incredible and knowledgeable archaeologist who took us on a 3+ hr tour of 3 Neopaleolithic sites.

Nice town to visit, felt safe, good assortment shopping and restaurants. One day is probably enough time "to see the sights" , but take two to enjoy a leisurely pace... stop for a coffee in the park and relax.

Beautiful place with lovely architecture, good restaurants, cafes, and small shops. Great to wander around. The locals were all very helpful. We also took a couple of trips out (local bus and a private tour) to nearby places of interest.

It is a lovely town - great to wander about.
It is a lovely town - great to wander about. We were glad to be there in November as it was quieter and easy to get around and into restaurants. We had lovely weather too. The food we ate was incredible - Algeria's e Vinho was AMAZING - such good value for incredible food and service. Origins was great too - more expensive but it is in the Michelin Guide. Highly recommend both,

Lovely old city with more to see than expected, we stayed only 1 night, but should have stayed longer. We arrived there easily by train from Lisbon and used a taxi through the town to our hotel. The inner old city is the best to explore on foot, and easily walkable for all the great sites.

The Hotel location was great and just a ten-minute walk to the centre of Evora. The facilities were fantastic with 4 pools and a great pool bar/restaurant. All the staff were fantastic and the quality and pricing of the food and drink was outstanding. We had the buffet breakfast every morning and it had everything anyone would need.
We would highly recommend the Villa Gale Evora
Beautiful decor hotel in a peaceful setting. The individual pods/rooms are very large, with a seperate sitting room. The large bed was comfortable with good bedding and pillows. The breakfast was fantastic and we also dined in the restaurant and had a great dinner. The pool was lovely and warm and a super place to relax. The hotel is well located for Evora and the surrounding area.
A great modern hotel perfect for touring Evora and surrounding areas. The free underground parking and ample breakfast included in our rate were both added features that were the reason we chose this hotel. Staff were very helpful and pleasant always. The community room was great for two couples to spend time together in the evening after a full day of touring.
Very stylish hotel. There was live music in the bar on Saturday, which was an unexpected bonus. Also, a small shop selling lovely local products that you do not see in Evora itself.
Lovely individual rooms and hotel, very much the historic vibe of Evora encapsulated in the hotel.
The staff were amazing - nothing was too much trouble.
