One of the major seaports connecting France and England, Saint Malo is Brittany’s most visited town and a tourist destination in its own right.
The Old Town overlooks the English Channel and is completely surrounded by restored walls. You get a great view of them if you arrive on the ferries from England to St Malo (either direct or by the Channel Islands). Once an island, this citadel now shelters behind it the hundreds of sailing boats bobbing in the modern harbor.
Within the Old Town are bars and restaurants serving oysters from nearby Cancale, and many of the St Malo hotels. The most notable sights are the cathedral with its colorful, stained-glass window, and the castle - site of the town's museum.
The beaches are sandy, though the water is somewhat bracing. A causeway leads to Grand Bé, a rocky island housing the tomb of Chateaubriand, its most famous son. To the south is the 14th-century Solidor Tower, a remarkable collection of artifacts from voyages around Cape Horn. Further inland is Labyrinthe du Corsaire, a huge maze that will keep kids busy for hours.
In the Rance River, connecting the sea to Dinan, is the world’s first tidal power station. The road over it leads to Dinard Airport, the closest to Saint-Malo.

A fascinating town with lovely beach, which we couldn't visit due to weather and time. Our budget hotel was 25 minutes walk from the old town, but well worth the walk. Very good range of shops and fascinating history

As I am unable to walk more than a couple of miles these days I caught the little train from outside the tourist information building. It takes you round the old town. It was fun but also very informative in French and English. I learned many interesting historical facts. It was also useful in that It enabled me to find out where some of the museums were and how best to get to certain areas of the port etc.
Saint Malo itself seemed very dog friendly, which was great. I thought the food and drinks prices where very reasonable. I ate at several restaurants., all of which where super. One day I had a coffee and a cheese and walnut baguette. Truly beautiful takeaway. I sat on the ramparts watching the boats. The baguette and coffee place was the first you see as you enter the main gates to the old town. On average food and drinks where cheaper than Northern England.
As a female alone I felt safe. I am already planning my next trip for a longer stay. I really can not think of anything negative to say about St Malo or its people.

The Intra-muros of Saint Malo are amazing: the history is very touching, the destruction after the war! The beauty of the city, the cathedral, the small streets are just a pleasure and food will simply impress you. Stay a few days.

We took the mini train and enjoyed hearing about the great history and culture of the town, the shops were very repetitive selling the same products, the restaurant we used when we first entered the town was to say the least unfriendly no welcome and just pointed at the menu maybe she was having a bad day, if it was mine she would not be working for me, this didn’t ruin our day in St Malo as others were most friendly and informative, overall we had a great time.
The location is very convenient for those who want to walk around the wall of the old town after dinner. It takes 2 mins walk to a carrefour supermarket, 5-10 mins walk to the center of the old town. Will definitely choose this hotel again if I come back for the beautiful beach and old town! By the way, the speed of the wifi is among the best I have experienced in hotels in France.
I really enjoyed my stay. It isn’t far from the ferry or the old town. Both are a short drive away. There seemed to be plenty of spaces to park on the street or in the hotel’s car park. My room was very comfortable and breakfast was well presented and there was a variety.
We have stayed here before when catching the ferry to return to England. The hotel is spot on and great value. The position in the old town is unbeatable and there is lots of parking just outside the city walls with only a short walk in to the hotel.
Good location in walled city. Very welcoming and helpful reception. Fairly standard breakfast offering but well presented in a bright room. Car parking under the hotel was a great bonus in such a location if a little adventurous to get into it.
Fabulous hotel in a lovely location within the old town walls. The hotel owner and staff were very helpful and made our stay very enjoyable. Parking was easy and close by and reasonable in price.
