Courteous and helpful staff. Everything is within walking distance. Excellent suggestions for places to eat and the breakfast was absolutely delicious. Tomy and staff were exceptional at the buffet. The illy coffee machine alone is worth the trip. Comfortable walking distance to the port if you’re embarking on a cruise.

Near the Slovenian border, Trieste combines the waterside setting of Venice with the elegance of Vienna. The Habsburgs ruled here for over 500 years and built Miramare Castle on a rocky outcrop to the north-west. Their other influences include stately Piazza Unità d’Italia, looking out to sea and spectacularly lit at night.
But this is just a glimpse into Trieste's long and fascinating history. The 1st-century Riccardo Arch hides in a narrow street, and part-way up the hills behind the city centre are Roman theatre remains, while columns from the Roman forum stand next to San Giusto castle and cathedral.
The most photographed church is Sant’Antonio Nuovo, overlooking a boat-lined canal. The nearby Stock Exchange has a colonnaded façade and its square houses some of the city’s shops. The most popular cultural attraction is the Revoltella Museum of modern art, while more sobering is Risiera di San Sabba, a former concentration camp near the Palatrieste and Nereo Rocco sports stadiums.
Watersports include windsurfing and kitesurfing from the port which is an important coffee importer. Unsurprisingly, the city’s Viennese-style coffee houses serve top-quality brews, and the best is reportedly Caffè San Marco, once frequented by famous authors.
Booking.com’s Trieste accommodation includes hotels with pools, cheap apartments by the station and B&Bs near Ronchi dei Legionari Airport.
Trieste has a very interesting history being essentially the Adriatic port for Central Europe.
The city's architecture has a real feel of the Hapsburg influence about it. The centre is very easy to walk around.
Do take a visit to the fine Hapsburg Miramare Castello on the western shore of the Gulf, Bus routes 36 and 6 from near the railway station go there. Tickets can be purchased from the female newsvendor next to relevant the bus stop on the Viale di Miramare. She speaks good English, as she used to reside in Ottawa,
The small historic harbour town of Muggia on the eastern shore is worth a visit by ferry.
We can recommend the Ai Fiori fish restaurant in Piazza Hortis in the City run by Alberto and Joanna just off the Esplanade.
The tramway from Oberdan to Opicina has apparently not been operating for over five years.

I went to Trieste because I wanted to find the sea easily accessible from Vienna. It was a huge disappointment because the sea was so dirty everywhere that I didn't go in. On the Goggle map, the reviews say that Trieste's beaches are clean, but those who wrote them have probably never seen a clean sea. Mussels are farmed in huge colonies all along the Gulf of Trieste, which is probably why the water is so dirty.

Trieste is lovely and chic city.
Trieste is lovely and chic city. You don’t need more than two full days to experience and explore it. Trieste has a smallish old town but overall it is a cozy and beautiful city. Plus, this Italian city is good value for money and it is surrounded by picturesque mountains :)

There isn’t anything really wrong with Trieste, it just wasn’t our favorite city. It’s very much uphill for anything you want to see so it’s not good for elderly or people who can’t get around well. I was expecting it to be a little bit more “Jewel of the Adriatic.” Because of the High Points, The view was nice and we spent most of our time looking out at the tops of the buildings.

The hotel is located a few kilometers ahead of Trieste; by car it takes only a few minutes to downtown - still one can enjoy the beach locally for a swim (even in November). We've been upgraded to nice rooms, including balcony - a pleasant surprise.
Tommy, the chief-of-breakfast, takes care about everything the guest may need - including the extra piece of good mood, making the start of the day a pleasure.
First of all, he is the best host ever!! We saved money because he helped us with parking, where to eat, how to go on excursions! The best location in Trieste, right in the center and in a quiet street, real Italy! The apartment has everything you need, clean and comfortable.
The next time I visit Trieste, I will go straight to this apartment! Everything was wonderful and beyond expectations!
Great on room furnishings and fittings, bed quality and bathroom amenities. Yet the room felt like it was stuck at the bottom of an elevator shaft. No natural light nor the ability to really feel comfortable about opening the doors for fresh air.
More a glorified cleaning cupboard space than a boutique hotel room
Staff were great tho and it’s a mostly handy location
Perfect location in the very near of the old town, reception only open in the afternoon, but the hotel is offering a perfect solution for online checkin, and also sending information well in advance. Rooms are modern, clean an very well maintained. When going back to Triest one day I would again choose Elisabeth Boutique Rooms!
