Edgy and eclectic, Palermo is a symbol of all that Sicily stands for. From buzzing Vespas to the bustling Vucciria market, it simply brims with life.
Wonderful Palermo Cathedral glows radiantly in the Mediterranean sun. Nearby is the city’s last Sicilian Puppet Theatre, and opposite is a palm-filled park housing Roman mosaics, though the best are in the archaeological museum. At one end is the Norman Palace, a government building home to the fabulous Cappella Palatina whose gold mosaics are absolutely breathtaking.
Equally magnificent are the gold mosaics lining 12th-century Monreale Cathedral on the city’s outskirts. Wander the cloisters and note the varying columns and capitals – each pair is different.
Palermo also has fascinating churches: 2 of the oldest are 12th-century San Giovanni degli Eremeti and San Cataldo, each with red, Islamic-style domes. Gesú Church has an incredible Sicilian Baroque interior, while La Martorana’s frescoes are awe-inspiring. A street away is Quattro Canti, a crossroads with a fountain at each corner.
Other attractions include round Teatro Massimo, Mondello beach and Monte Pellegrino mountain overlooking the sea. You get fabulous views of this picnic spot as you fly into Palermo Airport before heading to your Booking.com accommodation.

It’s a friendly city but the pedestrian roads are NOT for pedestrians. Must go to the new marina area, very posh! In old city, enjoy walking in the dedalus of street but mind the tiles, very slippery. Must eat at Funnaco pizzalab! 4 types of dough for the true pizza connaisseurs.

Amazing place.
Amazing place. Absolutely loved the architecture, culture, Churches, palace church and music in the opera house. Didn’t like the filthy streets littered with rubbish people throw down and cigarette butts everywhere! Why is this such a problem ? Why can’t they do something about this. Would be such a beautiful place if they could clean it up. Traffic is uncontrollable, e bikes, motor bikes, cars coming at you on the footpath from every direction. Organisation at places can be very bad also.

In all honesty, it was dirty as warned before.
In all honesty, it was dirty as warned before. I love Italy, but was disappointed in how dirty Palermo and Mondello is. People should be fined if they don't clean after themselves on the beach in Mondello. Even the streets in Mondello look like they have not been cleaned in YEARS!!! Palermo and Mondello could be so much MORE if cleaner. Would I recommend a visit - NO

Palermo is a beautiful city with wonderful historic places to visit. We especially enjoyed visiting the beautiful opera theatre. We also took a ferry to the two islands, Favignana and Levanzo, which we enjoyed extremely.

We did not get to spend much time there.
We did not get to spend much time there. Its really not a place you want to drive around, be prepared for long walks and crazy traffic with death defying storms of moped riders. My brothers experience was much better than mine as he stayed near the town center, a closer walking distance to many more attractions.

Interesting Italian city, though very poor and dirty.
Interesting Italian city, though very poor and dirty. It has its bright spots, and the food is just fantastic. But outside of this, I wouldn't recommend it. Overall, the city is pretty miserable and the traffic is just terrible. People are a tad ignorant and the beaches looked neglected. We visited a beach outside the city, the Mondello Beach, which was pretty amazing. Also, the harbour next to it was scenic, and it offered some fascinating places to dine in. If it wasn't for the incredible hotel we stayed in and the restaurants we visited, I don't think that we would have enjoyed our stay. Another thing is, it can get real hot real fast. As for monuments, there are almost none that are worth it. The ones that were made accessible for tourists were either out of work, like the Fontana Pretoria, or weren't that interesting to look at in the first place.
The hospitality, cleanliness, comfort, and host. The place was a happy respite coming from major cities in Italy like Rome and Naples. The free breakfast and pastries were so great to have included. They also helped arrange for a driver to come pick us up from the airport and bring us to the B&B. They were so nice! This was the 9th place we have stayed on our journey across Italy ending with the 5 days in Sicily.
This is a small boutique hotel with an excellent location near the most central attractions and shopping. The hotel was very clean. The professional front desk and team was always helpful and had a smile on their face. The bed was so comfortable! Breakfast was fresh to order, plentiful and very delicious!
We would not hesitate to stay again should our travels bring us back to Palermo! Grazie Millie
Well located 7 min walk from train station . Beautiful boutique hotel . Lovely staff ..friendly and helpful. Lovely room imaginatively created in an 15th century spice store. Excellent choice of food for continental breakfast
Thank you Matel and team for making our trip to palermo very enjoyable. Tony and Ann . Ireland
The hosts were very welcoming, they allowed us to check in a little early because the room was ready and they recommended the best places to see in Palermo and in the rest of Sicily plus explained us some fun facts and history of Sicily.
The hotel is perfect for one-night-stays if you arrive at the airport and travel to another city in Sicily. You can explore the city of Palermo by foot and try to relax in the crowded pool.
