This hotel was fabulous on all levels: service, cleanliness, breakfast, room, onsen, etc. The staff took very good care of us. The hotel's private and public onsens were amazing! The hotel was not crowded; we would often be the only ones in the public onsens. The breakfast was outstanding. We were amazed at how much effort it took to prepare the food. The presentation and taste of the meal were outstanding! I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone planning a trip to Gero. You won't want to leave this property and the pampering of the staff!
Featuring natural hot spring baths both indoor and open-air, Suihoen offers traditional Japanese-style accommodations with a historic charm.

• Room : was VERY wide, long entrance, 2 toilets, a wide room with a dining table, TV and massage chair (also did not use both), small kitchen with drinks in fridge, one large tatami room, spacious bedroom with two double beds. You also have triple mirrors in multiple places and almost all the windows have insect net, window and wooden covers.
• Onsen : Two private onsen baths large enough to fit at least 2, maybe 3 people. The temperature is perfect! (Very warm but not to the point where you feel like burning when you get in. The onsen inside is next to the shower, and rhe one outside has a very nice view on the town and the mountains.
• Food : Dinner was Kaiseki (traditionnal japanese way of serving the food in courses in the room) and lasted about two hours with many different things ; seafood, meat, vegetables, soup, etc. If you're vegetarian or dislike seafood (there's quite a lot), I'd say fhere's still enough of other things to surely fill your stomach.
For breakfast, see the picture (includes everything).
• Service : Amazing, very polite and help you with whatever they can.

There are 3 different onsens, 1 at each of their buildings for us to try. Very relaxing experience. The hotel location is amazing. It is walkable within 2 3mins of the Gero station but there is also an available shuttle bus at Gero station if u have too many luggages. The breakfast spread is fabulous too with many varieties of japanese dish in bite sizes portions to try out, help with preventing food wastage also. My kids were both excited to sleep on the prepared futon in the ryokan style room
Very clean and modern with a ryokan-atmosphere. The room we stayed in was great, the futons were comfortable and the room itself was large. Nice that breakfast was included too.
- the staff was exceptional courteous and very helpful
- Beautiful traditional room with comfortable futon beds
- good location near center of Gero
- free water, tea and coffee and breakfast included
- free yukata to wear
- try the private onsen! It is very relaxing, calming and has a nice view on a little garden
The inn was the perfect distance from everything we wanted to try. They gave us yukata to use during our stay that we used multiple times. The breakfast was great and we got a different breakfast on the second day! The private onsen was incredibly comfortable.
Clean and comfortable traditional inn with tatami floor and futon beds. Loved the private onsen that you can book for 45 mins. Staff were very friendly. Location was good too, walkable distance to the Gassho Village and the food street.
The futon was comfortable, the breakfast was complete and varied (includes both continental and Japanese breakfast) and the onsen hot springs were nice (they provided towels and you had a space to dry yourself up where you could find creams and other amenities).
EVERYTHING. The dream come true in a ryokan (and affordable). I truly love the private onsen. It was bliss. The room, the yukatas, the ambience, the fact that look like is brand new construction but in a traditional aesthetic. A dream.
This 93 year old ryoakn was an experience we will never forget! Surrounded by breathtaking nature on the outskirts of Gero, this ryokan provides a very authentic Japanese onsen experience. It was a joy to bathe in the thermal waters in the private bath in our room, as well as the public indoor and outdoor baths. The view from the room was amazing. We booked a traditional Japanese-style tatami room, and it was spacious, with a balcony, and mentioned private bath, an awesome experience.
Traditional and foreigners can get a good experience at this ryokan. All style dress in traditional kimono or yukata. They have staff who speaks English. Very organised check in process, you can tell they are well verse in receiving big volumes of guests. Very efficient.
Onsens are great. As guests, there were 3 to choose from.
