The room size, staff service and food was spectacular. It was as competitive as the service I experienced in Kamikochi.

Kind staff, very young but eager. It's a nice welness hotel option around Sendai and the rooms are lovely, however we got the hotel at a 40% discounted rate and would still say it's only worth max 25 000yen pP / night. Full price of almost 500 000 per person - no way it's worth it, and we've stayed at many hotels and ryokans across the country.
The Western bed was very uncomfortable, you could even feel the springs, so we opted for double futons and had a good sleep.
They did have a nice common area with a fire, and you could get alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages from there which is great.
They accommodated our dietary needs (no fish, meat, dairy) at breakfast and it was absolutely divine.
Located a 10-minute walk away from JR Kaminoyamaonsen Train Station, Arimakan features an outdoor hot spring bath with a view of the surrounding mountains.

Amazing staff and just as equally amazing food! Such a fantastic experience. The staff went above and beyond, will definitely be coming back. Plus there is a custard pudding stand not 20ft from the premises, it’s to die for.
Experience culture authentically with a stay at these traditional Japanese-style accommodations. Sleep on the floor (on a futon roll) in a room furnished with tatami flooring and sliding doors. Guests can often expect access to a communal bath, plus a complimentary Japanese garment called a yukata.
- excellent location, situated right inside the train station which was close to the bus stop for ZAO Onsen
- again with location, very close to a large shopping centre with konbini inside
- room and bed were very comfortable with a nice view of the city
Excellent location, very close to the JR station and the bus terminal to Zao onsen. I came by bus from Sendai and I got off literally right across the street. Lots of convenience stores and food options around. Friendly and helpful staff despite the language barrier. Complimentary breakfast was wonderful.
Great, old school Japanese place to stay, right next to the gondola - its about a 20meter walk to the gondola entrance! And you can ski down the hill, right to the door. The room was nice and big with traditional tatami and futons.
Great staff - the owner speaks really good english and is really helpful - he has great suggestions for everything from Onsen to restaurants etc. They even helped me ship my snowboard with Kuroneko back to Narita.
Location is just perfect. The hotel itself is kind of dormitory. The rooms are with tatami floors, but carpeted on top. Maybe it's dome during the skiing season. Although beds are foldable, they are really comfy.
The onsen they collaborated with, although 700m feels like a long walk during winter.
The closeness to the slopes, like you legit wake up, strap your gear and just go outside. No shuttles needed unlike in other places.
Great place right on the ski slopes easy access to restaurants. Friendly owners very accommodation of leaving luggage before and after stay. Clean rooms. Onsen available
The dinner exceeded expectations - about 9 courses that provided a good variety of Japanese cuisine, from fresh seafood to local beef varieties. The property itself also provided so many options to relax, including reading areas and on-site onsens.
Wide variety of options for breakfast, though best if you like a Japanese breakfast. Certainly did not go hungry, plus there is a big supermarket right behind the hotel. Very comfortable beds. Loved being able to leave luggage after checkout before going to Ginzan Onsen for the day. The location is very convenient to the JR station for trains plus also for catching the bus in the morning to Zao Onsen.
Best location directly next to the chairlift. Friendly owner. Cozy beds. Great atmosphere in Zao Onsen. Onsen Vouchers for other Ryokan Facilities were highly appreciated.
