We stayed at Ryokan Oomuraya in a big family group to celebrate my husband’s birthday and it was the highlight of our trip! It is a beautiful traditional ryokan with a fun music focus. Everything about our stay was so enjoyable, from the relaxing onsen to the delicious and creative meals, the excellent drinks and atmosphere at the music bar, and of course the hospitality of the lovely staff! They helped me to arrange a cake for my husband’s birthday, cheerfully sang happy birthday with us and gave him some party hats to wear! Ureshino Onsen is a beautiful little town which was fun to explore, with lovely cafes and gift shops. We hope to visit again one day!

We are seasoned ryokan customers, and have been to quite a few around Japan, and Shukubo Shingetsu is seriously one of the best. It's relatively new and unknown at this point, but definitely is a hidden gem. There are 3 units available for booking, and we booked one of the two that have two-people capacity.
PROS:
1) The whole house has a lovely wood smell (I think it’s Japanese cedar, sugi).
2) All 3 of the units (we've asked to see them all) are beautiful, modern and very very comfortable. They're designed by a famous architecture firm in Tokyo.
3) It's one of a handful of ryokans in Arita, which makes it rare.
4) If you're a huge fan of pottery (which we are), you will LOVE the detials around the house. The umbrella stand, the overhead lamp shades, the vases around the house are all beautiful antique Japanese Aritaware.
5) The food is absolutely INCREDIBLE. The chef (Yasunori-san) is amazing, and that's compared to a lot of other much older and much more established ryokans. Try it, you absolutely have to try his food. He also uses leftover rice from the rice course to make extra riceballs for guests as a midnight snack, which is great.
6) Bed was firm and comfortable!
7) Private onsen in the room was great.
8) Snacks and drinks in the room are 100% free.
9) Netflix in the room!
10) The owners also own a beautiful antique pottery shop, which is also a must-visit.
11) Free parking!
12) The owner of the Ryokan is a lovely lady named Tomoko-san and speaks excellent English, so foreigners would feel very very welcome.

Lovely family run traditional guest house. My room had a lovely view over the river. The owner was lovely and with limited English did her best at making me comfortable, helping me use the washing machine, and finding somewhere good for dinner. I arrived a little early and her mother was the only one on site and had no real English but still did her best to accomodate me until her daughter arrived to check me in. The hot bath was nice and there’s even a private one you can book for an hour too in case you’re a little uncomfortable with sharing. I think currently their dining room is being renovated so no meals at the onsen but lots around locally.
Experience culture authentically with a stay at this traditional Japanese-style accommodation. Sleep on the floor (on a futon roll) in a room furnished with tatami flooring and sliding doors. Guests can often expect access to a communal bath plus a complimentary Japanese garment called a yukata.
Staff were so friendly. There is a special atmosphere. The onsen was wonderful. It's very convenient for the station and for everything in Takeo Onsen. Looking forward to going back!
The traditional house set up. 2 tatami rooms with 2 futon beds each.thw tatami beds were very comfortable. It's like an air bnb and the hosts were super helpful. I didn't even have to contact them upon arrival. They came down to greet us and were available for any question. They were very kind in suggesting places to see. It has an elevator as well, so it was great for luggage.
The accommodation is cosy, comfortable, well equipped and situated in good location next to Takeo Onsen Romon.
The hosts are very friendly and helpful to provide sightseeing information. They are prompt to response and totally no barriers to communicate in English.
This onsen hotel only provides lodging without meals. There is no need for you to arrive early for dinner. The lobby is well decorated with old items particularly the old
gramophone. The gramophone is played by the staff in the morning with records made of brass (?) but not vinyl and the music is still good. You can enjoy a cup of coffee, free of charge, while listening to the music. The staff will let you have a try to turn the handle of the gramophone. The room is spacious and futon is comfortable.
I choosed a tatami room with private bathroom. Everything was clean and comfortable. Besides the great Onsen the lobby is a big highlight. It's like a museum, you really want to spend time in it. To my biggest surprise the owner spoke German. She took some time and showed me around. The still working gramophone is amazing. Kyotoya is in walking distance from the train station.
Room was splendid, location was good. Onsen was great, the little details in the room was perfect eg the tea set in a box, a flask for hot and cold water. The matcha in the bags
Yukatas present and ready for us
