Top notch facilities and service, staff go out of the way to make the stay pleasant. Very nice view of mountain from my room and also the public onsen. I also left my phone behind at the property and the staff helped to express courier it to my next destination. Very impressed by their service level.

Ryokan Konomama is one of the best ryokans we have been to in Japan. It is located quietly in in the rural area of Aso. The room is spectacular and well equipped. The lighting in room make everything onto another level. The view of the mountain is phenomenon. We love it.
Experience culture authentically with a stay at this traditional Japanese-style accommodation. Sleep on the floor (on a futon roll) in a room furnished with tatami flooring and sliding doors. Guests can often expect access to a communal bath plus a complimentary Japanese garment called a yukata.
Nice space with traditional futons. Very spacious and quiet. Very nice host who also baked wonderful bread for our breakfast. The owner is currently building a restaurant next door so having meals there might be a possibility in the near future.
I loved the cottage in autum, very romantic.
The little bath onsen style was so relaxing
Host was so nice and had vast knowledge and gave recommendations around area.
Nice dining area
Spring water can be drunk out of tap
A very particular place, with a lot of love for details. The place is out of town, so we were glad to have a rental car. Not sure how you get there at night if not with a taxi. The owner was very kind. The room was funcional. What was exceptional was the small private onsen, which we liked a lot. Free coffee in the morning. Thank you very much!
The Sanrinsha is a jewel. The host has great tips for discovering the area and even makes you a complete schedule for what to see while evading the rain. The place has a very welcoming atmosphere and you feel like home immediately. After a long day, you can end it in the cozy, little, private onsen.
The host was incredible, helped us plan our day. The hostel gives a really lovely rustic feeling. The indoor onsen is a delight, and everything is very clean.
Super adorable place to stay. Beds were very comfortable and the little onsen there was definitely a highlight! Also the owner is super nice and was recommending us some places to go to!
Cute little guesthouse in rural Kumamoto at the foot of Mt. Aso. The host, Stefano, was extremely friendly and chatted to us for a while about the local area - he then offered us some of his homemade bread! There is a really nice natural onsen and izakaya nearby - so it was the perfect location to stay to experience rural Japan. Highly reccommended.
