Absolutely fantastic. This was a big splurge for us, and to be honest we were quite nervous about the cost. As soon as we arrived the service was amazing. The room is beautiful, the hot spring as well. The evening meal was the best we had in Japan, and the breakfast was delicious. The staff attentive and kind. Simply put, if you’re like us and treating yourself - don’t hesitate to book this place, it was one of the best experiences we had in the Japan.

Very friendly staff, some of them could speak English well, the room was spacious and had a very good view of the mountains, futon was comfortable to sleep in, appreciated that they topped up the water in the kettle, the onsen was delightful, the snacks were delicious, amenities provided were good quality, location was up on the steep hill but the bus stop is maybe about 100 meters away. Overall, it was worth it and a delight to stay in.

Onsen temperature was perfect, onsen rooms are exceptionally clean even though the establishment is old. You don't have that icky feeling of slimy floors or funky odours like many old onsen bathrooms do. I like the onsen water in Ikaho a lot better than that of Kusatsu as it is not as acidic. Personal preference.
The staff are very sweet and helpful, even though most of them do not communicate well in English, they do try their very best.
Ryokan is just a few steps away from the famous Ikaho stone steps! lots of fun eats and shopping there

It was located at the top of the Ikaho Onsen steps. It has many vending machines and a large property. The staff are super super helpful and very understanding / accommodating.
Exceptional friendliness of the staff. Very helpful and they went out of their way to make my stay comfortable. The food was very good. Just the right amount. The onsen was very enjoyable.
I loved the place. I have never stayed in a hotel that I would have loved more. It was my first experience with hot springs and I enjoyed them a lot. Why not a full smile for bed: my arthritis and futon were not the best friends, haha! But that was not hotel's fault. But I managed well enough. And I have never had a more beautiful view from a hotel window.
Mimatsukan to us was quite a traditional accommodation, initially was worried about sleeping only on the tatami mattress but it was all good and comfortable!!! The private onsen was nice as well!
The best onsen ryokan we have stayed in so far. We have stayed in countless ryokans over the years, but none came close to Oyado Tamaki. Great food, great water, great location, and great staff. All our needs and request were met instantly. It is such an exceptional place, and we cannot wait to go back again.
Rooftop onsen was gorgeous. If you're reserving make sure to get it while there is still light to view the mountains. If not you can use the gendered sides anytime during their open hours. Staff was exceptional. Spacious rooms with tatami floors. The full ryokan experience in a classic onsen town. 10/10
Well situated on the Ikaho Stone Steps, Kishigon Ryokan had a wonderful check in service and large breakfast buffet selection. The 3 onsen choices were all different. The open aspect onsen was my favourite. There was a magnificent view as you stepped out of the main elevator.
This was our third visit to Japan, and we always wanted to try a traditional ryokan. Oyado Tamaki surpassed our expectations ! The level of attention to detail was amazing. Everything was impeccable. The tatami beds were super comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were an experience on its own, definitely a feast for the senses (they catered to our meatless request, everything was delicious). The staff was friendly and attentive and made us feel royal (domo arigato gozaimashita Okami san, domo arigato Kobayashi!)
