Zen no Yu, hotel in Nishiizu

Located on the premises of Jigenin Temple and boasting a hot stone sauna and indoor/outdoor hot spring baths, Zen no Yu is located a 10-minute drive from Kawazu Train Station.

Our stay at Zen no Yu was a real highlight of our time in Japan. We had the kaiseki dinner the evening of our arrival and the breakfast in the morning. Both were excellent! Starting with reception, the whole experience of the inn, from the temple grounds to the quiet shared spaces to the provision of yukata, creates an atmosphere of serenity and relaxation. The onsens were clean and inviting--I especially enjoyed the open air bathing on the back deck. Plus, the reserved time in our own couples bath in the evening was fantastic! Highly recommended!

Mizumari, hotel in Nishiizu

18 miles from Shuzen-ji Temple in Kawazu, Mizumari provides accommodations with access to an open-air bath. This ryokan features free private parking and a 24-hour front desk.

The property itself, the rooms, the perfect temperature dog the baths, but most of all the service from the owner and staff were beyond compare. The meals were so well prepared and diligently explained by Taiyo-san in English. It sounded like most of the guests are from Tokyo or elsewhere in Japan, but foreign guests should not hesitate to book as the English communication was perfect. Little touches were appreciated like Hanabi by the front door with lanterns and matches, and a free vending machine with drinks and snacks. At the end of our stay, the owner even offered to drive us to the top of the waterfall hike, he went above and beyond by returning our camera to us when we forgot it in the room. We highly recommend room 105 as it has two beautiful decks with multiple baths/footbath. It was nice to have two restrooms and such a spacious place to relax. Every amenity in the restroom and minibar was perfect with lots of complimentary drinks and ice cream. The vibe and aesthetic were perfect throughout the room and overall property. Ideal location 30 minutes or less from the beach/Shimoda and near Kawazoo frog exhibits, close to Shuzenji, and walking distance from the Kawazu waterfalls. We can’t wait to return one day and have recommended to family members!

We really enjoyed our stay - the resort had two onsens, plus footbaths near the free self-serve snack and drink bar overlooking the bay. Our room included a private balcony with a bath. The staff didn't speak much English, but were very friendly and helpful. Best stay during our two week trip. The hotel is located close to the Tombolo land bridge. If we ever return to this part of Japan, we would come here again.

We preferred the Japanese theme onsen than the Roman theme both both are great. We like the game room too. We wish we had known earlier and plan to utilise the game room.

Staff were very friendly and excellent customer service, helping us to book a dinner reservation nearby as the hotel was not offering dinner service the night we stayed. We enjoyed the free beer and soft drinks from 3-5pm with beautiful views. Onsen was busy but lovely.

Excellent staff support for our comfortable stay. Beautiful view. This is a perfect example of the family-style hot spring resort that is a more affordable experience based on the ryokan model. Personally, I love it for the amenities, large tatami rooms, buffet, hot springs and general sense of relaxation. New Ginsui is a perfect version of that style and exactly what I wanted.
