Stay for four nights not disappointed at all. It was around January. Everything is Snow White magical atmosphere the hotel is located in a small town. There are nearby restaurants. I took the full course so I had breakfast and dinner every day. The food is amazing Japanese traditional style I took the Japanese style room. It was comfortable and spacious. Really nice view of the river sitting in a cozy room enjoying my green tea was an amazing experience. The open bath was great. There are two open baths and they change around the evening. It is just amazing to sit outside. It's snowing listening to the river water this is why I booked this hotel, it met made my expectation on highly addressed renting a car because of the remote area

This was a fabulous overnight trip! I booked on the day and took the highway bus from Tokyo Station to avoid transfers and chill out. I was dropped right out the front of the accommodation where a staff member was unexpectedly waiting to welcome me. I could not fault the service. Staff were so polite and helpful, doing their absolute best to explain things to me when I didn't understand the Japanese signs and such. The rooms are lovely but simple, in-line with Japanese style. The private onsen was so relaxing in the winter chill. You can see the snow on the trees while you soak. The meals were also a whole experience. You wear the provided yukata and get a semi-private space to dine in. At dinner it felt like the courses were never-ending with new dishes coming out one after the other, all immaculately presented. While I was busy eating, a staff member prepared my room for the evening by setting out the futon and the in-room tea set. There were thoughtful little details throughout my stay- could not recommend this place enough! One night was sufficient for me, but if you are driving or coming in a warmer/drier season, you may like to make the most of the hiking trails and neighbouring sights.

Experience culture authentically with a stay at this traditional Japanese-style accommodation. Sleep on the floor (on a futon roll) in a room furnished with tatami flooring and sliding doors. Guests can often expect access to a communal bath plus a complimentary Japanese garment called a yukata.
Kaiseki breakfast and dinner were absolutely amazing and the service and eye for detail incredible. I loved my spacious room and comfortable futon. And the onsen were perfect. This could not have been better. Absolutely loved it
Great highrise riverside ryokan furnished with good taste of traditional interior. Much better than many ryokans of this type which use cheaper artificial materials. The private onsen was fabulous and met our expectation.
Staff were exceptional in the Ryokan, they looked after us from start to finish! We really enjoyed our time in the private onsen being able to relax surrounded by the sound of the river next to the baths and the dinner which followed was amazing!
Everything, the staff was very friendly, professional and helpful. Japanes breakfast and diner were awesome. The private onsen was great. First time stay in a Ryokan and I will definitely do it again next time in Japan, hopefully in Shima Onsen Kashiwaya Ryokan 🙏
Staying at the Kashiwaya Ryokan was an exceptional experience that we will remember fondly. The hospitality was outstanding, Hitomi took the best care of us and made us feel at ease. The food, the onsen and the room were perfect.
Beautiful ryokan, we love staying here. Getting here is relatively easy, instructions shared by the ryokan were very clear.
They have 3 outdoor private baths ( first come first serve). Sooo relaxing, clean, room was good size and comfortable. During your stay you need to dress with a Yukata provided by the ryokan.
We had a traditional vegetarian Dinner and breakfast which was also very nice. This is an amazing way to immerse in the culture. Highly recommended if you are visiting Japan.
This is a beautiful historic ryokan, staying there was a really special treat! The variety of food was absolutely delicious, the room was spacious, comfortable and with a beautiful atmosphere. There are several onsen, they are large, clean and very relaxing (I most enjoyed the outdoor one). Staff was very attentive, polite and helpful.
Such an amazing stay! The staff were so friendly and kind! The food experience was amazing and the private onsens were so special. Would highly recommend going for a couple nights to fully relax and enjoy the ryokan!
