The couple who run this inn are so lovely and friendly, the room was quite big. The onsen was a little small but very nice to use, there was also a nice bath in the room itself, the inside of the inn is decorated beautifully! We had a great time in Matsushima :)
Offering Japanese-style rooms, Shintomi-tei offers public indoor/outdoor public baths and relaxing massages. Free Wi-Fi is available at the lobby area and free parking is on-site.

We loved the decor, and the graciousness of the owners. We would return.
Experience culture authentically with a stay at these traditional Japanese-style accommodations. Sleep on the floor (on a futon roll) in a room furnished with tatami flooring and sliding doors. Guests can often expect access to a communal bath, plus a complimentary Japanese garment called a yukata.
Phenomenal stay! The staff was so friendly and professional. The views are one of the best I’ve ever seen! The onsen views are breathtaking. We also booked the private bath and it was perfect! We only had traditional breakfast and it was divine. We loved every minute of our stay here! We’ll definitely be back! Thank you for such a wonderful experience!
A location at the sea with beautiful view. The hospitality is great, staff very friendly. A nice feature is that you get to choose your own yukata. One person in particular, had lived 16 years in Spain, helped is with his English skills and gave us great service. The room was pleasant, the futons comfortable. We had a private bath on the inner waranda. Dinner was exceptional, a real wow factor. Same for breakfast, amazing.
Really kind staff, absolutely gorgeous building, comfortable and clean bedrooms: this ryokan is a perfect affordable place to stay to explore Matsushima! You can also rest in the onsen after a long day of walking. The location and atmosphere of the ryokan is calm and quiet, and I slept extremely well.
The welcome ! The amazing garden, the "japanese" path inside the house with the sand area fully zen!
The confort of this traditional house despite the winter and the snow outside!
A nice and tasty breakfast !
And at the end the simple onsen with the provided yukatas
Our room (japanese style) was large enough - we took the 26m2.
Thank you for everything!
This is a real Japanese inn with onsen bath in a quiet location with garden. Charming hostess who spoke a little English. Our room had a bath/shower and toilet. Excellent breakfast available.
I loved the friendly family greeting as I arrived after a very long day of touring Sendai and Matsushima. The place was exactly as advertised...a traditional Japanese Inn which is what I expected. A large tatami room, slightly dated, but with everything I needed for a comfortable night's stay and great value for money, even adding the taxi fare from the port. Hot water instantly in the in-room tub and very clean. It is ten minutes walk to Matsushima Station, but further from the main tourist activity near Matsushima Kaigan Station.
A traditional japanese style ryokan, with all the bells and whistles: tatami floor, futon beds, yukata, own onsen. The room was lovely, the food tasty and the owners extremely friendly. Can only recommend.
Comfy rooms, fresh sheets, yukata. Tatami mats are clean and comfy. Friendly couple and cute dogs!! We felt very welcome. Please use „Takagimachi“ if you come by train and have luggage, better streets/concrete and space on the sidewalk.
Best thing: tattoo-friendly Onsen on 3rd floor!!!
