Absolutely lovely place. The staff were all very friendly. The waiters were lovely and the front desk staff were a great help on our last day. The room was very traditional and very comfortable. We stayed in a room with a private, outdoor bath and I highly recommend it. The view was lovely too. We asked for a vegetarian menu and the meals were superb. Especially the udon.

Perfect location less than a minute from the stairs to the shrine. Only a 10 minute walk to the train. Loads of shops line the stairs. The hotel itself was exceptional: staff, facilities, onsen, restaurant, room - all were absolutely top notch. One of our best stays in Japan!

Might be a bit old but it was a really nice experience to be able to stay in such a traditional ryokan. The interior was also very well kept and tidy. The hosts were really welcoming and helpful even though we arrived really late.

Asan Kotonami, hotel in Kotohira

Located in Kasuga, 26 km from Takamatsu, Asan Kotonami features a terrace and views of the mountain. The ryokan has a hot spring bath and sauna, and guests can enjoy a meal at the restaurant.

Asan Katonomi is truly a tranquil and amazing place to stay. I stayed in both "Deluxe Twin Room with Tatami Area and Open-Air Bath Type F" and "Cottage Type H" with my family. The food is very well prepared, delicious and unique. The staff, especially the butler, in the hotel is attentive and very polite. I have to give special compliments to the staff -- 春田燕 Tsubame Haruta. She made our stay extra memorable and enjoyable. She was very attentive to details and thought for us, customers, before we were aware of our needs. Couldn't be more thankful to be supported and served by her during our stay. The rooms of the hotel are cosy, clean and supported with very thoughtful service. For "Deluxe Twin Room with Tatami Area and Open-Air Bath Type F", there are two sleeping area in the room, one with beds and one with tatami. The open-air bath in Type F is absolutely enjoyable and relaxing. It's simply mesmerizing to look up to the starry sky while having a hot bath there. The elderly and the kids in our group loved the room. The bathroom is linked to the open bath area, you can go outside for the bath directly after shower. The bathroom amenities are well equipped. For Cottage H, it is less luxurious than Type F, but it's worth staying too. There is a room with beds and tatami avaialble in the living room. there is a balcony with table, chairs and arm-chairs. The cottage is closer to nature than Type F and its further away from the main building. Need to walk up hill for the place, but the hotel has a golf cart to help transport the luggage (and passengers!) uphill. You can call for the service in advance and they come very quickly. It's impressive that there are bottles of free fresh milk delivered to the special mail box every morning for the residents. Scrumptious and fresh milk! There is no onsen in the Cottage, but you are entitled to book a private spa in the speciall room in the middle hill.

Beautiful haven of tranquility. The design and craftsmanship in the rooms was exquisite. The outdoor onsen bath, though small, was wonderful. The ryokan is a quick walk to the historic Kabuki theater if you take the path behind the property. The theater is definitely worth a visit. We wish we had stayed a second night.

The proprietor is lovely and helpful. She gave us a map of places around the ryokan as well as large size loaner umbrellas (larger than our conbini type) which was great as we arrived on a very rainy day. The rooms are as expected for Japanese style in an older building. The onsen is simple but clean and that's all that really matters.

The place was very good. Staff at counter, parking area and room service staff were friendly, helpful and professional. The room was excellent - big, clean and the futons were comfortable. The onsen was superb. Good restaurant within the premises. In addition varied eating places were within walking distance. The location was closed to a couple of popular places of interest. Recommended for stay in Kagawa area.

The room was wonderful, large and well decorated. The hotel is really beautiful, you can borrow a yukata for the length of your stay, which was really great! The dinner was delicious, a several course meal with different traditional Japanese dishes. The onsen is open 24h, very convenient, very clean, with several baths available.

Wonderful blend of east meets west. My room was huge and carpeted, some others were tatami. I believe must have beds rather than futons. The hot spring baths were wonderful. Their are both indoor and outdoor. I paid 3000yen for a private outdoor bath which was good. I didn’t dine in the restaurant for dinner. But breakfast was wonderful. The lounge area turns into a bar at night which was very popular and not expensive.
