Fantastic little Ryokan in Hakuba. A great location for skiing, very walkable even in gear to the bus stop for the shuttle, or even to the Happo Gondola.
The rooms is lovely. At first I was a bit apprehensive because I'd never slept in a tatami room kinda thing, but its pretty comfortable. Only thing I missed was being able to throw myself onto the bed :-) .
The breakfast is amazing, I'd never had fish and rice for breakfast before, but it just works. A great Japanese experience in that regard.
Staff are lovely, very kind and polite.

The bus stop right outside the building is awesome when getting to and from the slopes eliminating most of the downsides of being so far from the town centre. The baths were awesome and very relaxing.

My stay at Furuya was so lovely. I would absolutely stay again next time I'm in Hakuba for the Japanese culture, hospitality, comfort and easy access to everything in the area. I stayed during February, snowboarding and working remotely while here.
All the staff/family are really pleasant and the accomodation feels like a genuine ryokan. Every generation seems to be helping out there. I used google translate on my phone to ask a couple of questions to the older gentleman and that was quite a fun experience, with both of us speaking into the mic to communicate.
I had a traditional Japanese room for one person, which had a beautiful view of the mountain. The room came with a Japanese green tea set each day. I found the room really comfortable and spacious, with plenty of space for my luggage in the wardrobe. The heater did a good job of warming up the room.
A delicious set breakfast was served each morning, I think between 7:30am-8am, which was great because it got me started at the same time each morning.
They have fresh hot spring baths which are amazing to soak in after being on the mountain. I wasn't used to the open shared style of the rooms, but I went while it was empty in the early evening and had the room to myself.
The accomodation feels peaceful and like a home. There is a curfew, I think it's 10pm, which at first seemed odd to me, but wasn't a problem and I think helps keep it quiet at night.
As I was remote working the wifi was really handy, it was fast and reliable. I sat on a couple of big cushions on the tatami mat floor as I had a Japanese room. It was surprisingly good to work from.
Location wise, it's a short, smooth walk to the main bus terminal (to get to other resorts, Nagano for the Shinkansen or bus to Tokyo) and also an easy walk to the nearby chair lifts and main Happo-One gondola.
Experience culture authentically with a stay at this traditional Japanese-style accommodation. Sleep on the floor (on a futon roll) in a room furnished with tatami flooring and sliding doors. Guests can often expect access to a communal bath plus a complimentary Japanese garment called a yukata.

Quiet location among the trees, but close to ski area base. Very well fitted out 'cabins' (duplex) with bottom floor bathroom, mini-kitchen and small living area (note our unit had a table with floor-level seating) and upstairs tatami room (good for a couple, and one or two kids). Nice views from glass doors/small balcony. Parking right out front. Great onsen (needs to be pre-booked an is an extra fee - but worth it to have to yourself for an hour). Very nice staff.
Onsen/ hot spring is one of the best in Hakuba. Breakfast is standard buffet style like most Japanese ski resorts decent selection but same every day. Hotel has complementary wine and snacks between 4pm and 9pm in the lounge and complementary green curry and miso soup at the hotel entrance at other times. Nice after returning from the mountain.
This is a lovely, friendly and unique type of Ryokan accommodation in Hakuba. A family fun business (now in its third generation) the local knowledge and assistance was very helpful. If you want to stay in Japan and experience some authentic Japanese living, this is the perfect place. Very clean. Great onsen on sight.
The building was lovely - a traditional ryokan. The owner was so kind, preparing snacks at the end of a day on the slopes and making bookings for local restaurants. The location is excellent, being extremely close to the Happo One shuttle bus and walking distance to many restaurants. The onsen was also lovely at the end of the day :)
Delightful staff, very close to the mountain for the Nakiyama slope so morning sessions were easy
The onsen was clean and authentic and the supplied yukata robes was an extra treat.
"It's a small family-run hotel. The rooms are spacious enough for 3 people, with futon bedding on tatami mats. It's not far from the bus terminal. The bathroom and toilet are shared but very clean. There's a hot and cold water dispenser on the 1st floor, and a dry room in the basement. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, but it's advisable to book in advance. You can also have your luggage sent to the accommodation in advance with prior notice."
This hotel is bigger than a family-run hotel but feels Japanese hospitality . Big room with the Japanese decor and surprisingly comfy futon atop tatami mats. They have dry room underground floor. Medium size bathroom (onsen) in hotel. Located in the heart of Hakuba city near bus stop to many ski fields. "Woody" Equipment rental shop is only 20 steps away, and there's a discount available.
