We lived our stay here. We especially enjoyed the private outdoor onsen as we have tattoos and couldn't go to the other on-site onsen. We could have reserved the "family bath", free of charge, but we preferred the flexibility of having one outside of our room.
We opted for breakfast each morning. It was very tasty but did not take place in the room. There was conflicting info on whether it took place in the room or a personal dining room away from your room. It was the latter, which was fine.

Good value accommodation located in Kannawa Onsen, walking distance to the Jigoku and Hyotan Onsen. The manager didn't speak English, but did his best to communicate using a translator app. You can use the kitchen to make Jigoku Mushi (hot spring steam cooking) with your own ingredients. I stayed in a Japanese style room with futon and tatami mats. It was like living in a 1K apartment more than a hotel.
Incredible hospitality, beautiful old house, and an open air private onsen to enjoy. They even asked about my diet and had a vegan meal as an option. Really good traditional Japanese inn experience in an ideal part of the city. It's less than a 10 minute walk from the ocean, shopping streets, and Beppu station which is also where the buses to the "hells" hot springs and ropeway can be taken.
Not my first ryokan, but definitely the best. Amazing staff, who helped us when we were late to the check-in, as well as helped us with parking, getting the suitcases, and explaining to us anything we needed to know. Great location (We had a car and we didn't need it for getting around), and awesome Ryokan. a very nice room, amazing private onsen (with both reserved and first-come-first-serve onsens), and a pretty good Japanese breakfast. Futons are super comfy, the lobby is nice, and there is even free shochu. Will stay again.
Within walking distance to the Jigoku Meguri tour and the infamous Hyotan Onsen. There’s a lift for upper floors and it even has a kitchenette. The tatami floor is very nice. The futon is comfortable. It was a short stay but it was nice. My room even has a balcony. Retro bathroom with no bidet.
We absolutely loved this hotel, we stayed in the Ryokan style twin room with tatami and a gorgeous view of the ocean. We used both the communal onsen and our in room one which were wonderful and relaxing. The staff were so helpful despite their limited English. The room was very spacious for 2 people and we'd love to stay again!
This ryokan is beautifully decorated. I hired a yukata and took some gorgeous photos wearing it with the great bamboo decor. The room was very spacious for Japan and had a great view of the mountains from our balcony. The dinner and breakfast were delicious. The onsen followed by a massage was pure indulgence. The staff were very friendly and speaks English well. The ryokan was a short walking distance from the train station. We had a fabulous stay and highly recommended.
The staff at the ryokan was very polite. Room came with dinner and breakfast. Dinner was a very sumptuous meal with sashimi and few other courses. Ryokan also had its own onsen for us to enjoy and relax in. The beds and futon was also very comfortable.
The hotel has an onsen, which is nice (though way too hot). The hotel had not only tv, but also a remote to access Netflix and such.
The tatami+futon is a nice original touch.
The lady was extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful. The private onsen which can be booked out for 30 mins is amazing! You get the onsen experience in private which many people are afraid of public onsens.
The room was very traditional with tatami mats and futon. It was super comfortable and didnt have any problems getting to sleep.
Overall I would suggest ANYONE who is visiting the Beppu area to stay here.
I will be staying again! 🙏
The room is spacious and relatively quiet. The private onsen here is definitely value-for-money. There are two private onsens - one within the building and the other located on the opposite side of the hotel. It is my first time staying in Ryokan and slept on traditional Japanese-style tatami mat and yes, it did exceed my expectation!
