It's a lovely facility, and Mao takes really amazing care of the grounds (even handles the gardens by himself)! The breakfast we added on was lovely, culturally appropriate, and tasty. Really liked the onsen. The room was good, quite comfortable. Loved the location in the middle of Hita, even including parking for our rental car.

Hita Onsen Kizantei Hotel, hotel in Asakura

Hita Onsen Kizantei Hotel in Hita provides accommodations with an open-air bath, free bikes, and a garden.

Set along the river, it can be a stunning sight during the golden hours right before sunset and after sunrise. A peaceful, scenic river path walk or bicycle route. You can even climb up to a forested shrine along the river path. The roof top onsen unfortunately doesn't look the photos because there are privacy screens on the womens side that block the view and the inside onsen windows are fogged up, also blocking the view. Meals were plentiful, we couldn't finish the generous sets. Reception staff were not welcoming, which is unusual as all our other stays in Japan the staff cheerfully greet you as soon as you walk in the door or step off an elevator. Very nice yukata and over jackets provided.

This was an actual 10/10 stay. The hotspring baths are amazing, the rooms are beautiful, the staff goes above and beyond and the food is quite the experience. If you come here i would also recommend checking out the bar. The bartender is very nice and made us some amazing cocktails. I can recommend his "rose petal mojito".

yabenomori, hotel in Asakura

Yabenomori offers accommodations in Miyanoo, 17 miles from Hirayama Hot Spring. Offering a family-friendly restaurant, the property also has a garden and a terrace.

I couldn’t believe how lucky we were to experience the hospitality of Yabe no Mori. The host contacted us once our booking was confirmed. He was very helpful since we got lost in the mountains. Google maps took us through the backroads and the scenery was gorgeous but it can be scary in the dark due to falling rocks and very narrow road. Once we arrived, our Japanese Kaiseki cuisine (Japanese tasting course) was ready. It was one of the best meal we had throughout our travel in Kyushu. I am still thinking about the Chawanmushi (steamed egg custard), not to mention the view of the Yabe River from the restaurant is to die for. The lodge was situated in the middle of the majestic mountains. Every lodge is design to resonate a house. There were plenty of room for the four of us. The lodge was so clean and modern.

The meals were delicious with portions larger than I was expecting, even for my child. The building and rooms looked renovated and were clean. The staff were very friendly and kind to our family, especially my one-year-old. I would like to stay here again sometime.

Very nice and clean ryokan in a quiet neighbourhood. An extra bonus is that we got the place to ourselves as there were no other guests. The host provided eggs, sausages and bread for our DIY breakfast.

We loved the private hot springs in the rooms - that’s why we booked. The food was also amazing - dinner was like a ten course tasting menu. It’s a bit expensive when you opt for the dinner and breakfast combination but I really enjoyed my stay and would love to go again! The beds were especially comfortable after sleeping on floor futons for the few nights proceeding.

A beautiful and traditional Japanese hot spring resort with the great feature of a separate cottage for every guest and a hot-spring-fed pool in every cottage. The breakfasts were extraordinary.

It is a beautiful ryokan with spacious and comfortable rooms. We felt pampered the whole time. The in-room onsen was awesome! The meals were delicious and beautifully presented. Despite us not speaking Japanese, the staff was very thoughtful and did what they could to accommodate my friend's dietary restrictions, which was appreciated. It is a little off the beaten track, so I recommend renting a car to get to/from here.

One of most memorable stays in Japanese Ryokan. In- room private onsen is great for those not familiar with public baths. Dinner was exquisite and each course was like a meal in a Michelin star restaurant (ok slight exaggeration) but we enjoyed both dinners and the breakfasts. The attention to details in the dinner was something I won't forget. The service staff took the trouble to use Google translate to explain each course. Thanks for the overall wonderful experience.
