I highly recommend staying here if you're in town looking for an affordable place to stay.

Dar Es Salaam is an amazing city that is rapidly developing. From their BRT(Bus Rapid Transit) transport system that makes it so easy to move around the city very cheaply and be allows you to interact with the Tanzanian locals. If you are seeking an uptown vibe, ILALA is the place for you since it has a diverse group of people from different nationalities with Indians pre-dominantly occupying the area. For a more downtown and vibrant vibe, going to the famous Kariakoo market will give you a chance to see the full spectrum of Tanzanians way of life. Hopping on a ferry ride to Kigamboni is an awesome experience and you can be able to since the city's skyline from the other side. Their street food scene is on point and Tanzanians are generally crafty with their cuisines which results in VERY delicious dishes(this is a must try) that is mainly chicken and rice dishes. If you are more into the Indian cuisine, go up to Ilala, there are tons of Indian restaurants on that side of the city. One rule of thumb that you have to remember if you want to socialize with the locals or ask for directions is to know that Tanzanians are very courteous people and greeting people is part of their culture. You have to initiate a conversation with a greeting either in English or Swahili preferably otherwise they might think you're rude and decide to ignore you.
