Located 200 metres from Karpinjan Beach, Palazzo Rainis Hotel & Spa - Small Luxury Hotel - Adults Only offers 4-star accommodation in Novigrad Istria and has a terrace, a restaurant and a bar. This is a new hotel with a staff that is working very hard to make every guest feel welcome. We visited in the off season (late November) so we benefited from a terrific room rate that included an excellent spa (sauna and jacuzzi) and a superb breakfast. The hotel also has bicycles for guest use at no extra charge which we used for a lovely ride up the coastal bike path. All of our encounters with the staff were positive and friendly. The charming town of Novigrad is just across the harbor in east walking distance. The hotel is situated with view of the picturesque harbor and its numerous sailboats but sits just car enough off the road and the harbor to be very peaceful. The spa in the basement reminded us of an Austrian sport hotel; the sauna and jacuzzi were excellent plus it plays peaceful music and offers herbal teas to relax and cool down.

Pula City Centre, Rovinj Old Town and Borik are popular with other travellers visiting Istria.
This small provincial town on the Istrian coast near Opatija consists mainly of a road between the sea and a steep hillside, with houses left and right. Historic mansions and parks facing the sea are quite nice, but there is no beach, only platforms with steps into the water. Historic center is nice too, but small. Choice of restaurants and cafés is limited. Okay for a longer weekend, but wouldn't spend extended holidays there.
Beautiful little town on the Istrian coast, busy but not overcrowded. Perfect for families and relaxing. Forget the south, Istria is the true gem of the Adriatic.
A very scenic and historic small town which developed from a Roman military encampment. It was very interesting to hear how complex the creation of the town's La Grisa boutique hotel from 7 adjoining houses had been - most of their former owners had been forced out in the course of the Italian exodus after WW2, and tracing and buying out their descendants had taken worldwide research over a 2 year period. The Soardo-Bembo palace, although well restored, appears underused. During the main tourist season the town has a rather full events calendar - out of season it can appear somewhat sleepy by contrast. The nearby Histria Aromatica complex is well worth visiting and offers a 360 degree panoramic view across mid-Istria. Likewise a visit to Svetvincenat on the far side of the A9/E751 main road is recommended to see the impressive castle and Renaissance square. Altogether a good central accommodation location for Istria - plenty of local atmosphere but not as difficult for parking as Rovinj or Porec.
Beautiful Istrian town with a lot of restaurants and places to chill. I enjoyed my dinner in Basilica. It’s very easy to get around. Church on the hill is worthy to visit. If you like outdoor activites, it is a great place for long walkings, for diving, swimming, playing tennis, etc....
Porec or Parenzo is just nearby my hometown, about 100km away. I am very surprised how the things had changed. There is very less traditional staff around. The city is full of cheap Chinese souvenirs for just average tourists. The food is just regular, things you can get at home. However you can visit the nice Basilica Eufrasiana from the 6th century and this is a must! Maybe the only thing that is worth to do there apart long walks near the sea. Do not eat in the city, get out in the countryside to taste much better food. Avoid Calamari as they are from Argentina and not brought from the Adriatic sea. Overall Croatia became very expensive with the European prices while the people with the average salary can not afford hotels with very expensive rates. The same you can get in the main European cities like Vienna, London, Barcelona etc where you can probably also spend lesser. Don’t visit Porec, make there just 2 hrs visit. This is also a tip from the official Istrian guide (me). Get in the Istrian countryside and stay there. This is the most topical and powerful experience you can get in Istria.
Being rather small, Porec still stands for more culturaly inclined crowds with old town locations such as Euphrasian basilica and Heritage museum, impressive Town Hall and old town palaces from Roman to Gothic and Baroque . Contemporary Art Annale is hosted in near by Istrian Parliament. Mishmashed with “popular” offers such as guided boat tours and all you can eat looking restaurants not mentioning Luna park and ring of commercial hotels on both sides, feels a bit stiffed and cramped at the times. Hopefully this need to fill up all available spaces without general concept will decline in favor of more elegant airy approach to contemporary art, more contemporary designed examinations of heritage protection and wider variety of accommodation services. Town would definitely profit from youth hostel in that artisan artish direction to gradually fix the cultural gap between understanding and respecting heritage research and bringing high end contemporary art and design into the picture. Generally Porec is small and interesting enough to be more daring in cultural concept making and in hope for the best outcome, be more bold in envisioning the future of Adriatic tourism.
Lovran is well situated along the Opatija riviera. Plenty of restaurants and bars and supermarkets. Great base to explore the Istrian peninsula and visit nearby islands using ferry. Bus service between the local towns is handy. There is a taxi boat service but you have to arrange times for picking up etc
Brseč is a beautiful little village, located between the steep coast and the mountainous inland part of Istria. There is a restaurant, a bar and a grocery store. You can hike down to a small, lovely pebble stone bay with crystal clear water. The national preserve Učka is not too far - the vegetation and especially the bird population is astounding.
Rovinj was a gem on the Istrian Coast..picturesque, clean, clear blue waters & friendly people. Food was good, fresh and varied. Accommodation was close to cafes, bars, restaurants and supermarkets. Shopping excellent.
The atmosphere of an old Istrian city on the hill. Small streets, great cuisine and Labin is famous for its people accent.
Grožnjan
Apartment is very small and modest. However, thats why its so affordable. I personally was just looking to sleep for 2 nights and continue to explore Istria, and that's what I got. Owner lady was very nice. Air conditioning worked great. Bed was comfortable. You get a free parking card. Public parking is 2 minutes from apartment, there was plenty of space to park. The room is very small, very small shower, but again, its super affordable. Soon as you leave the room there is a sitting area outside with fantastic view.
Višnjan
We spent 5 days in Istria to see the coast and the interior. Apartment Nika turned out to be a great choice because we could visit everything within 30 minutes by car (excellent beaches are 20 minutes away). The apartment is newly renovated, completely clean and equipped. The hosts were at our disposal, but not intrusive. Not only do we recommend this apartment, but we hope to stay here again someday. Don't miss visiting the Višnjan observatory and listening to a lecture about the stars, not even 10 minutes from the apartment.
Peroj
The property was well-maintained, clean, and equipped well. The house itself was spacious, with a small garden and a private pool, making it an ideal retreat for relaxation. The host Alan was incredibly hospitable and provided great recommendations for nearby restaurants and attractions. Overall, I highly recommend this vacation home to anyone looking for a serene and picturesque getaway in Istria. It exceeded all our expectations and provided a perfect base for exploring this beautiful region of Croatia. Polecam:)
Pula
The area is beautiful and convenient. The apartment was adequate but the kitchen was small. We stayed in August on a last-minute getaway and the price was high, but comparable due to the timing of our stay. The breakfast at the Park Plaza Histria was amazing and reasonably priced. The sea is only a 1 minute walk and so beautiful. Our Villa was in a quiet area. The water heater in our apartment stopped working and maintenance came immediately to fix the problem.
Umag
Very quiet location in Istrian countryside while still offering a sea view on horizon. Very well equipped and very spacious apartment, that makes you feel like at home. It really allowed us to relax and enjoy the vacation, instead of being frustrated by old/non functioning furniture or appliances, lack of kitchenware or having barely enough space to move around. For us, this was a very welcome change of pace and has set a new standard for vacation bookings.
Peroj
Great and friendly hosts. Wine and water left if the fridge waiting for us :) Nice, well equipped and air conditioned apartment. I especially enjoyed the terrace :) Beach within 5 minutes walking distance. Not too crowded event in the season peak, which was something I really liked. A few beach bars. It is a perfect location for families or people who'd like stay away from crowds. If you have a car a few cool Istrian destinations easily accessible.
Bale
The farmhouse is amazing, beautifully renovated yet still authentic and cozy, peaceful and surrounded by Istrian nature. Rovinj and Bale, a hidden gem worth exploring, are near and easily reached by car. The host is wonderful, very attentive and happy to meet all of your needs, and gives great tips for local dining. Breakfast is excellent, all local (or authentic Croatian :) ) foods, fresh fruits and juices, with good coffee. All around good service!
I had an excellent stay at Villa Istriana. Daniela is a very kind & welcoming host, and all the staff were very friendly. It was one of the most welcoming hotels I have ever been to. The dinner, with the fresh fish of the day, was amazing. The room was very clean and it had a sauna & jacuzzi. The location of the hotel was also great, a short drive away from the beach and Umag city center. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel.
Hotel is perfectly located in the centre of the peninsula to visit most of the istrian cost locations. Staff is very helpful and friendly. We booked a premium room with a fantastic balcony, offering a lot of space and a superb view. Interior and exterior style of the hotel is extraordinary. Breakfast is high quality (only exception is the orange juice). Also here, helpful and friendly staff. All in all a very good stay at apprpriate cost.
Excellent place!!! Apartment is perfectly equiped, there is everything you need for a stay. The host is extra nice and very helpfull, she explained us everything and answers also questions during our stay related to recommendations. Apartment is situated in very calm area but with good communication to beaches and other attractions. I recommend to other visitors, if I will be back to Istria I will try to book it again.
Buje
Good vibes in a typical Istrian stone house. We arrived very tired, but after a couple of days in the property we were regenerated. Full of flowers all around, we woke up with bird singing in the morning. Very near to highway exit, but fully in the nature among olive trees. Really a dream house! Next time we will stay longer, the location is perfect to explore this part of Croatia, Slovenia and Italy.
Umag
Our stay at Valentina Apartments was absolutely great, location wise for a family is perfect and quiet, next to the beach with its private little beach garden. The apartment is well equipped and has also available cot, child seat and child beach toys, which made things a lot easier. Valentina was super nice host and I can only recommend her apartment to anyone wishing for a relaxed stay in Istria.
Hosts were extremely helpful & nice! Even picked us up from the parking location & brought us to the hotel via golf cart. Hosts gave us recommendations for things to see & restaurants/bars in the area. Also helped us plan our itinerary for the following day in Istria. One night was not enough. Beautiful room & views! Easy to walk everywhere. Would love to return soon!!
Štinjan
We had a wonderful stay at Apartment Falu for our family holiday to Istria. Martina and Rob were the most kind and hospitable hosts.. The apartment was well equipped with everything we needed and was very clean. The pool was our personal favourite and we made good use of it during our stay. I would definitely return to Apartment Falu and would recommend it to others. Thank you Martina and Rob 😊
Hotel Peteani is halfway up the hill leading to Labin Old Town- leaving a ten minute steep walk to the top where there are terraced restaurants and bars overlooking fantastic views. The rooms were expensively furnished and well maintained. The staff were super helpful. The breakfast was one of the best during our stay in Istria. Sauna and Steam Rooms were available at no charge.
Motovun
Breakfast is the strongest point: homemade by the hosts, from the ingredients that they grow on the property or collect in the surroundings. Something your Croatian grandmother would serve you. With a car, you can reach anywhere in Istria from there in 30 mins. With location near Motovun, there are wineries around, quite renown in Croatia, Fakin, Tomaz, Roxanich.
Vižinada
Terrific location, quiet with great view of Motovun. Rita (host) has been remarkably helpful in picking the right locations to visit as well beaches to get splendid views and clear water. Apartment looked exactly as on the pictures with terrace giving beautiful view on the sunrise. When we come back to Istria, we will definitely stay at Rita's place again.
Poreč
Awesome place to stay if you're coming by car. The room is very spacious and clean, it has a guaranteed private parking, location is easily accessible from both Poreč and the highway if you're road tripping around Istria. The host is a welcoming lovely lady who was there to help us with all our questions, and even let us charge our EV at the apartment.
Vinkuran
A beautiful apartment with a small terrace in a great location, making it perfect to access most of the towns in Istria. Accommodation is close enough to the city and just far enough to disconnect and enjoy the silence. The hosts were incredibly nice and helpful. We even got pampered with Croatia's best delicacies. Good parking. Highly recommend!
Rovinj
Hosts met us to welcome and check-in was very fast. Apartment is very spacious, especially bathroom. There are windows in kitchen and bathroom, so apartment is full of light. All furniture is almost new, there is everything you need in the kitchen, only was missing modern wine glasses (cause there are a lot interesting wines in Istria region)
