It's an excellent photo opportunity if you're into that. If you like old buildings and history, it's good for that too. If you like the feel of the heart-of-Transylvania darkness, it's super cool for that. If you like bars and coffee shops and bookstores, it's excellent for that too.
The old town was beautifully preserved and easily walkable in about an hour and a half. We did not go inside any of the old buildings, but were content walking the perimeter of the old city wall and enjoying the views from the hill. We stayed at the Hotel Central Park which was a perfect location to explore the town from. We also at both of our meals at the hotel, which were excellent. Overall, a great town to spend the night in when exploring Transylvania.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Poiana Brasov for families looking to learn to ski but wanting to avoid the cost and crowds of the Alps. There was little info online, so here are my tips: - flights. There is no convenient local airport. We flew to Bucharest. A transfer in a private car cost 300 lei each way (£60 at the time of travel), which was good value considering that it is a 3 hour trip. The car had wi-fi - Accommodation. The standards are good. We stayed in the Teleferic, which was very well appointed and great for the kids. A short walk to the gondola etc... There are other hotels nearby which looked nice, too - Food. Good value. Kids loved it. There are a few pizza/pasta places, but the local food went down well (bread, meat, potatoes). Coliba Halicudar was good fun and good with the children. - Lessons. It cost about £25 per hour for a private instructor, which was great for both us and the children. Ski passes are easy to buy and relatively good value. - The resort. There is one mountain with a few runs, mostly blue or red. You can't ski to other resorts, but we weren't looking for that. The town is quite small but has a fun snow park for the kids (sleighs/inflatable rings). I wouldn't go here if apres ski is a big concern - it was relatively quiet when we went. - The area. Transylvania is beautiful and packed with history. We took a morning away from the slopes to visit Bran Castle (linked to Dracula). There are other options, too, to explore.
Sighisoara was inarguably the best part of my trip to Romania and one of the main reasons I plan on moving there. Sighisoara is the most beautiful and well preserved medieval citadel in Transylvania with people who still live in the citadel and go about their normal lives. Many restaurants and cafe's offer a diverse selection of experiences. Don't miss out on the artisinal souvenir shops and museums. The Clock Tower, covered stairway, and hilltop church are must see's in Sighisoara. Absolutely delightful!
This unique city located in Transylvanian wally is absoluty breathtaking. One of that kind of places that one must see during lifetime. First of all is that experience while driving trough mountains and local villages, the amazing sightseeing. After is beautiful people of Brasov that are very polite and nice. Also there is a lot of special places like Bran and Rasnov castle, black church and nature parks all around the city. A lot of intresting and tasty local food, sousages and all kind of cheese wich are local specialities. Souvenur shops and street selers are also afordible with resonable prices. Overall experience is just amazing.
The village is very nice! It is a transylvanian saxon village and it isn't far from Sibiu (20 min) and Alba Iulia (50 min). You can reach the B&B only by car. You can buy from the old women handmade romanian folk costume. You don't have options to eat in Tilisca because it doesn't exist any restaurants. There are some in Saliste but we didn't try them. We ate in Sibiu and Alba Iulia. It is easy to get around Tilisca. You can visit the dacian fortress. Local shops.
Sighisoara is an awesome, historic Saxon fortress city. It is alive and lived in. Educational, beautiful, and amazing. A must for any visit to Transylvania.
We had a wonderful time staying in Medias, a yet undiscovered medieval town in the middle of Transylvania. We found Medias to be extremely relaxing, beautiful, and historically interesting. Medias lacks the tourism of either Sibiu or Sighisoara, yet is a very special place. Its worth visiting if for no other reason than because it is still an authentic Romanian town and provides visitors a sense of how people in Transylvania actually live today. We particularly loved sitting on the town square and watching the people from a nearby cafe!
I used Brasov as a base for my visit of Transylvania. I found it to be central and a nice place in and of itself. Don't forget to spend a day or two just visiting the city.
This was a major tourist trap in my opinion, especially compared to most other castles and fortresses in Transylvania, and an overall unpleasant experience. Sure, go to say you've been but expect big crowds (which means having to wait to let lines of people pass in hallways or being squished in the smaller rooms and waiting a while if you want to take decent pictures of the nicer spots) and a lot of noise and confusion in general. Also, good luck with parking! We got lucky but some people drove around for quite some time. I would not recommend this castle. If you go, I'd say be there right when it opens. Then maybe you'll have a few moments of peace before the madness begins!
Sovata
The best accomodation during our Transylvania trip. Comfortable, nice and super clean room, bathroom also, delicious breakfast, helpful and kind staff. If you want to stay in Sovata I happily recommant this hotel. Air conditioner worked well, cable tv with Hungarian and international channels, chocolate sortiment welcommed us. It has very good location, near to the Lake Ursul (Bear). Free private parking places provided. We definitelly will come back here next year, we really enjoyed our stay with Pensiunea Comfort.
Brilliant location right in the old town. Got the deluxe apartment and it's gorgeous. Medieval design, great attention to detail, 2 bedrooms with 2 queen size beds and another single covered bed. Super nice staff, especially the young lady at the reception when we arrived. Breakfast was good with a nice selection of hot and cold dishes. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking to see Sighisoara/Transylvania.
Cristian
We stayed here on our way back to Bucharest from Transylvania. It is very close to Bran castle (tourist trap). It has a pool and sauna which we did not use but looked very nice. We had dinner there which was standard fare, breakfast was good. The bed was comfortable, bathroom facilities were good and there is a nice balcony. We were a couple but this place is more family oriented. Parking is outside the hotel.
Bran
Nice, warm and welcoming, which was much needed in the temperatures of Transylvania in early February. Staff were very friendly, helpful and made us feel at home. For anyone visiting Romania to see Bran castle the location cannot be beaten, castle can be viewed from the room windows….and the entrance is less than 5mins walk. Overall highly recommended for anyone taking a short, or long, break in Bran.
Cârțișoara
There are not many places to choose from in the area, so this place is one of the choices. The village is one of the oldest on record Romanian ethnic village in Transylvania. (You won't find that information anywhere in the village though.) The owner is nice, but was a bit tired. The warm water from the shower was refreshing. There is ping-pong and badminton. The place recycles.
This is probably the best hotel in the Transylvanian Alps. The views are just breathtaking and rooms with balconies provide a panoramic view. The front desk staff were very warm and welcoming and willing to help make our stay perfect. Thank you to Mirabella, Andrea, and Paula especially. And the restaurant makes top quality foods with wonderful service. Thank you to Marius as well.
Sibiu
Exceptional Dining Experience The culinary offerings at Hotel La Voltoare are truly outstanding. The food is sourced from the best local suppliers. Every meal we had was a delight, from the traditional Transylvanian dishes to the more contemporary options, with an impressive wine list featuring selections from the finest Romanian vineyards,
Our flight was late and we did not arrive until after midnight—Hotel Transylvania, I know, right? Daniella contacted us directly, stayed up until we got there and made sure we were settled before she left. Then was on hand the next day to greet us. Excellent personal service. We were more than impressed! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
First time in Romania, could not and will not fault anything. Room are very pleasant, spotlessly clean. Shower a bit small, but dine the job. Price wise, very good value for money. Would recommend to anyone touring the area of transylvania. Well done to the hosts, who speak very good English.
Cluj-Napoca
Clean, cozy little apartment that is in the very center of Cluj but at the same time it is pleasantly calm and quiet. I treated myself to amazing Transylvanian dishes in local Cluj restaurants, but you can also cook in the apartment if you want. The owner is very nice and extremely helpful.
Râşnov
it is a perfect hotel for a short stay in the direct area of the Transylvanian mountains and after having spent a day in nature the hotel takes care of you when coming back, excellent service and a surprising outstanding original menu combined with superb Romanian wines,
Cisnădioara
Nice apartment in an old Saxon House with cats and rabits in the yard that was great for kids. We had the chance to be all alone and enjoy the full yard by ourselves. The accommodation is very well equipped. The village is one of the most beautiful in Transylvania.
Exactly as described on booking.com - a very convenient stop-over on your cross Transylvania trip or on your way into the Făgăraș mountains (with their famous Transfăgărașan road). Not too much to see in the town itself. Hotel is up-to-snuff though.
Proper Transylvanian hospitality in a charming hotel. Friendly staff, excellent rooms, nice and peaceful, and clean. Everything worked properly, and it was nice to have a kettle to make coffee to start the day.
Turda
The hosts are really nice and helpful. The room is very comfortable. There is a friendly dog living in the hotel, it was nice to spend time with her after long days of traveling around Transylvania.
Vulcan
Very friendly people but usually, people from Transylvania are very welcoming and very helpful people. The apartment is located in a quiet area and we had a very nice stay.
Miercurea-Ciuc
Old Transylvanian house transformed in a boutique type hotel. Rooms rather small, with a fridge but no AC. Good breakfast served in the inner court of the house
Sinaia
Spacious apartment with a beautiful view of the mountains. The advantage is a place in the underground garage. A perfect place to explore Transylvania.
Bran
Cozy hotel with the spirit of Transylvania. Excellent view on Dracula castle from our room.
Because of the atmosphere and the joy you can find. Even if you are a kid or a mature 😁
