The boutique 4-star Hotel do Canal is situated in Horta on Faial Island. It is just 100 metres from the beach and offers panoramic views of Pico Mountain and the bay. We loved our three day stay here. Very professional and friendly staff with a delicious breakfast buffet. The view from our window overlooking the marina and the mountain on the Island of Pico was stunning. Appreciated the underground parking and easy access. Loved the first floor lounge allowing a quiet and comfortable location to read in the early morning so as not to disturb my sleeping wife. Beautiful sunrise there. Location was ideal for hiking to the beach and enjoying the local restaurants.

Set in a 16th century fortress overlooking Horta Bay and Pico island, this Pousada hotel features a swimming pool and regional restaurant. Most of the air-conditioned rooms have views of the marina. Fantastic hotel, full of character and lovely breakfast. Everything is within walking distance, and the staff are super helpful.

The place is very close to the city of Horta and also to other interesting places in Faial so the location is optimal for trips around the island.

We were staying at the Suite on the top floor and everything was perfect. The flat was absolutely clean and everything seemed very new. The Suite is accessible from the back of the building so you can actually park you car behind and use a private entrance, avoiding the stairs in the building with your luggage. Denise was so friendly and helpful with everything. The views on the harbour and Pico from the balcony are spectacular. Peter's Sports Bar is just next door.

Artistic and funky but also warm, friendly and totally unpretentious. The hotel is an old style property, airy and light with big windows and views to the Pico volcano. It is like a gem of an oasis amidst more recent development on the edge of town, but is only ten mins walk down to the big square and port. Breakfast in the spacious dining room is exceptional and the ladies who run the hotel are charming and helpful. We had the extra benefit and unexpected bonus of the Suite, which was like having your own flat with a terrace! There are some trendy restaurant options down the hill with good food - but rather pricey wine, but we found a couple of traditional older places (Medalhas & Lima) that we liked. For whale-watching, Naturalist are a good science-based outfit and if you are short of time or transport they do an excellent half day island tour too - very informative and not touristy. You can do both in one day!
