We got picked up at our hotel in Iquitos and brought to the hotel by boat. For 50 USD per day we got to do lots of different things experience and sightseeing around the river.

The area is beautiful, the staff is experienced, friendly, knowledgeable of the jungle, the animals and insects, accommodating of your interests and needs. The food is prepared beautifully, though the chicken is much better than the beef. The daily trips through the jungle, on the river, bird watching, fishing, visits to local villages, dolphin watching, stargazing were ALL fantastic and made the trip, well worth the inconveniences.

This is an outpost in the middle of the Amazon rainforest, so of course we did not expect anything too fancy. Having said that, the lodge is an adorable place, simply made with mostly local materials, but beautifully designed. It takes a lot of work to keep everything clean and in working condition there, and all the necessary work was made in discreet ways, so that they would not bother the guests. What they have achieved is remarkable. The lodge employs many people from the local villages, thus enrolling the villages in conservation policies. There is one guide and one tracker for each group, and they take you around, on jungle walks and boat rides. Everything is as fascinating as you can imagine. We were very lucky and saw a lot of wildlife, including blue macaws, ant eater, sloths, monkeys, and so many colourful birds and butterflies. Food is delicious and the breakfast is very good. A special word for all the crew: guides, trackers, cooks and maintenance: all of them were really kind and knowledgeable. They go the estra mile to make the guests feel good. The lodge is powered with solar panels, batteries and a generator to complement the solar. Power is enough and never had an outage. Internet is available on the lobby/main hall, and works well most of the time. More than enough considering that you are in the middle of the jungle. This was a blast we will never forget. Higly recommendable if you love this sort of thing.

Hotel Selva Dorada is located in Iquitos. Every room is equipped with a flat-screen TV. Rooms have a private bathroom. Hotel Selva Dorada features free WiFi throughout the property. Staff is incredible profissional and friendly: Avil and all the other chicos are great! They will help you with restaurant, laundry and practical stuff recommendation. They genuinely are happy to help. The hotel is very clean, safe, breakfast included and centrally located just 3 blocks from main square. Rooms are very spacious, queen bed and most importantly with AC. Pharmacies and the supermarket Portales are just 1 block away. They are very flexible with the bookings and, in my case, due to a flight delayed, they allowed us to change the dates of the booking in a very attentive way.

Friendly and helpful staff, A/C in room that actually worked well, hot shower and good WiFi. Has a small swimming pool if you get too hot. I checked in a bit early without any issues.
